🎸Picking up the acoustic guitar for the first time?

...Or picking up the acoustic guitar for the first a long time?

No problem! Let's get you stringed up and back into the game. Each lesson is simple, effective, and guaranteed to get your fingers in shape and able to reach those frets you had never reached before--sounds a little bit like the intro narrative to Star Trek...?

What you will get in these lessons:

✅ How to play amazing rhythm guitar

✅ How to switch chords quickly

✅ How to play your favorite songs

✅ How to play solos

About Ben S.

👋 Hey there guitar aficionado! Ben Stubbs here, your Flamenco guitar go-to-guy. I want to show YOU HOW to PLAY the guitar...but more specifically, the Flamenco guitar. Let me tell you a little about myself, and then we'll get started with a plan for you!

I hold an M.P.A. and a B.A. from California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) in Public Administration (what does that have to do with the Flamenco guitar?); prior to that those degrees, I received an A.A. in Political Science (again, what does that have to do with Flamenco guitar?). The answer to the aforementioned question is that, I enjoy the discipline of the study of politics and government bureaucracies (I know…weird huh?). Nonetheless, I enjoy Flamenco most of all, and I want you to enjoy it too! Entonces…¡Vamonos!

The guitar is a wonderful instrument, which I began playing at the age of six. I began my studies with the classical guitar for the first 15 years of playing; and for nearly the past 20 years I have been studying the Flamenco guitar exclusively—playing various concerts, events, and giving professional instruction; and I want to bring you along for the journey by showing you step-by-step how to play the Flamenco guitar!

My experience as a guitarist in Southern California has led me to explore different genres of music, playing for various musical groups ranging from surf rock, concert bands, and jazz groups. As a co-founding member of the band, Ballistico, we opened up for acts such as the Del Tones, the Grandmothers of Invention (featuring members of Frank Zappa’s original band, “Mothers of Invention”), Avenged Sevenfold, and many others.

Having received first-hand instruction from the some of the most sought-after professional Flamenco guitarists living and working in Spain, I offer each of my students an unrivaled degree of authenticity in technique, tone, and style.

You may have heard that learning the Flamenco guitar is an oral tradition... and this is true, but it is not a hard-and-fast rule. I am one of those guitar teachers who understands that learning by ear can be hard for some students--and that's okay! That's why I provide additional learning materials (described below).

Each lesson includes tablature (TAB) and/or standard notation, audio recordings of the lesson material, and practice tracks (when applicable). It is completely normal that only a day or two after a lesson—or even a few hours afterwards—the mind can (and will) quickly forget the material. Don’t worry! I’ve got you covered. By having the accompanying written and audio material with you after each lesson, you will be well-prepared for a successful next lesson!

Ben is patient and a likeable instructor. He will challenge you but does so in a way that makes you want to demonstrate to him as well as yourself that you are learning and progressing. I feel good about my progress so far!

Ben's a great and knowledgeable teacher, always willing to answer whatever questions I have. I'm new to flamenco but have played other styles of guitar, and the lessons are really well-tailored for my experience level.

Had some platform issue to start even though I'd prepped and tested days in advance, called Ben and patiently got me onboard. He let the lesson go on for extra time to make up for the glitch at the start. In the lesson, he has patience with beginners and still covered a LOT of new techniques (new to me anyway.) Got me psyched up to learn. Already looking forward to next lesson.

Great instructor! Ben goes out of his way to record what you learn in class so you can reference it later on at home. He also is very good about preparing sheet music on new material. Very understanding with time and very knowledgable in guitar.

Very knowledgeable in Flamenco styles. So far it has been a great experience. I am progressing quicker than I anticipated. I thought lessons were overrated, but he has proved me wrong. I look forward to the lessons each time. Thank you Ben!

I'm currently taking Flamenco guitar lessons with Ben. He's polite, kind, and straightforward. Makes me feel positive and confident throughout the lessons. I tend to ask a lot of questions but he's made sure to answer each of them with enthusiastic and insightful responses. I'd reccomend him to anyone looking for serious lessons from a very knowledgeable guitar teacher.

Mr. Stubbs is an excellent musician and teacher. He has a wide range of musical ability from electric blues to classical guitar, and especially flamenco guitar. His approach of flamenco and his performance is masterful.
One would think that the discipline required to attain Ben''s level of ability would cause a person to get "stuffy" and dry . But a keen sense of humor, a quick wit and humility make time spent with Ben a pleasuraable learning experience.
