Percussion with Ashley R.

I'm a percussionist and composer/arranger. I graduated from the University of North Texas with a B.M. in Percussion Performance and have taught and freelanced in the DFW area for 5 years. I have competed internationally as a marimba soloist, and was awarded as a Yamaha Young Performing Artist in 2020. Additionally, having been raised in Texas, I have a strong background in marching percussion. I toured with the DCI group Santa Clara Vanguard in 2017 and 2018, and have been coaching front ensembles in the DFW area for the past 5 years as well. I've studied many diverse areas of percussion and can give instruction in many different styles/genres. I'm available to teach concert/orchestra percussion, keyboard percussion, marching percussion, hand-drumming, drum set, and jazz vibes. I also have a solid background in music theory, piano, composition, and arranging, and am available to instruct in these areas as well! I'm comfortable teaching people of all ages, and am especially familiar teaching middle schoolers/high schoolers. I am a very flexible teacher, and I love to personalize my teaching to every student's individual needs/wants! I'm open to approaching our percussion studies in unique ways that specifically interest you, and truly enjoy when my students take the initiative to tell me what they want in their lessons. That being said, if you don't know what you want yet that's just fine too! I have no problem getting students started covering all the fundamentals so that we can find some things that interest you.
