At age 11 I achieved the title of Master, and since then have become an International Master (with 1 Grandmaster norm), 5-time National Champion and am currently the #1 18-year-old on the west coast of the United States. Without chess instruction from the most patient, inspiring, and hardworking chess coaches none of this would have been possible.
I began to play chess at 7 years old and after my coach ended our first class by saying, "Every champion was once a beginner" my youthful imagination ran wild and I was hooked. My early development in chess proved to be nontraditional where my structured classes provided by my school were supplemented by the aggressive, unconventional playing styles I learned from spending my weekends sneaking games in with hustlers at my local chess park. Yet learning these vastly different approaches to the game allowed me to become a more complete player, and after 6 weeks of practice, I could beat every kid in my class and almost defeated my coach. ...

I have been coaching chess for many years. What makes chess lessons unique with me is that I make the chess lessons exciting, fun to learn, I point out mistakes/weaknesses in a very kind way, I give good examples of moves/positions relate to real life, I teach people the psychology of playing chess, and I improve people's game through love and repetition. I teach several opening variations as well as middle-game and end-game tactics. But I focus on what people's weaknesses are and I make those weaknesses their greatest strength.

Sam, is just such a great instructor. He's highly educated and professional and brings a wealth of knowledge to each chess lessons. He really went out of his way to connect with my 10 year old son-He's fantastic with children. Sam, convinced my son to play in tournaments and in the past 6 months, his rating has gone up by 700 USCF points! I could not be happier- Thank you Sam!"

Great to have him as a teacher."

I highly recommend Mr.Siddharth as an instructor. I am a relatively advanced player, but I can see how his wisdom can transfer over to beginners and intermediates. I will consider even more lessons in the future. One small caveat was his small bouts of absent-mindedness (moving the wrong piece, forgetting what as the last move), but that never caused so much confusion I didn't know what was going on.
Overall, he doesn't disappoint. Book a lesson with him, and you'll learn something."

Back around 2014, I decided I was going to improve at chess. I watched a few videos online about some openings, played a few dozen blitz games online, and then promptly lost interest within a week. Four years later, I decided to pick it up again and in less than a year, I had gone from 1100 to 1900 Elo rating online. Obviously, I changed how I went about my improvement! So here are the steps that I took the second time around that got me to where I am now, and some ways you can improve your ches …

The end of the game has come. You have successfully out-maneuvered and outfought your opponent, conquering large swaths of the chessboard, and approaching that triumphal moment when you will topple the opponent’s king and declare that he has fallen---in other words, a checkmate (recall that “checkmate” is an anglicization of “shah mat”, Persian for “the king is dead”)… Only to realize that you don’t quite know how to finish the game, which inevitably results in a slapsti …
