We will start off our lessons with introductions to the violin. In addition to posture and being able to appropriately hold and play the violin, you will develop a thorough understanding of basic music theory. We will incorporate music theory (reading notes, note values, notation, etc.) to every lesson. You will typically use Suzuki books to learn and develop different violin techniques. We will also spend a lot of time working on etudes/scales to compliment those newly learned techniques.

About Erica
Check out my website at: ericaquach.com

I was introduced to the violin at the early age of 5. I quickly found a deep passion for the violin and would play all day and night, much to my neighbors' dismay. I joined the NY Young Musicians' Ensemble, where I was given the opportunity to travel to Greece to play at numerous concert halls. I attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School as an instrumental major and took music theory/ history and ear training courses along with daily orchestra classes. At Hamilton College, I joined the orchestra and quartet ensemble, appropriately named, “Hamstrings”. I was asked to join the saxophone ensemble in 2015 and also took upon a Teacher Assistant position for a Jazz MOOC. In addition to my vast musical opportunities, I have also had many experiences working with children in education. After graduating
from Hamilton College, I taught both 1 on 1 and group violin classes at Real Brave Music School in Queens, which allowed me to incorporate the Suzuki method into my own curriculum for beginner violinists.
In November of 2016, I moved to Chongqing, China to work at Musicool Music & Art, where I was a Music Instructor, an English- Chinese Translator, and the Education Program Coordinator. I had the wonderful opportunity to develop comprehensive and innovative curricula to match the needs of multiple age groups, lead classes in both English and Mandarin Chinese, and assist other teachers in accurately translating class content. I was also responsible for overseeing program/curriculum development for the rest of the company, ensuring that each class had engaging and interactive elements. Please contact me for more information!

Congratulations on taking the next step to mastering your instrument and truly becoming an artist. Playing music has benefits for every aspect of life: creativity, technique, focus, and fun are encouraged as we learn how to become better musicians.

I am currently accepting students at my UWS studio, offering private lessons for all ages and abilities in viola and violin.

About Mattie
"Mattie is the best viola teacher in the world" says my six year old son. I also am a student and really appreciate taking lessons with Mattie. She is thorough and focussed and pays close attention to each student. I like her whole body approach to teaching proper form and am unlearning and learning a lot. - Rachel, adult viola student

-

I am a passionate arts advocate and teacher, and am here to help you bring your musical goals to life! I am a conservatory trained violist, with over a decade of teaching experience. My true love is classical chamber music, but I also have toured internationally with indie rock bands. I specialize in Dalcroze Eurhythmics, a method for teaching rhythmic movement as well as physical and instrumental improvisation.

My expectation of the student is that they are enthusiastic about their lessons and
willing to put in the demanding work that is necessary to fine tune their artistry. Together we will decide on pieces and goals according to your technical abilities and musical interests. For younger students, parents will have a role in the success of their child’s music education. Performing opportunities will be available since it is my philosophy that music is a gift that should be shared.

Music lessons with me are FUN! I am here to help you learn and support you along your journey.

My teaching method is special because it is tailored specifically to your needs. You are welcome if you're brand new to violin or if you've played for years.

I have been teaching privately and in music schools for 22 years and beginners are my specialty! I teach ages 4+. We learn songs that you are interested in. You will receive a balanced music education that covers all aspects of playing music.

About Mary E
I am a professional violin/fiddle player and singer, and I perform and teach music classes all over Manhattan and Brooklyn. I truly enjoy teaching and love seeing to the students needs and fulfilling what they need in order to progress as a musician. You are the most important part of our classes.

I worked for the NYC Department of Education as a substitute classroom and general music teacher (2015-2018). I have a background in students with special needs and special education. Se habla espanol.

I was award a full-tuition scholarship through an audition for the North American World Scholarship Program to attend Berklee College of Music. There I earned a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance (2003).

I have been teaching and performing music professionally for 23 years. I began my studies as a young child with the Suzuki Method (whic
h focuses on both learning by ear, substantial parental involvement, and then later reading music.) In high school I began studying jazz/blues improvisation, composition, and music theory. At Berklee College of Music I focused on jazz and all kinds of contemporary and traditional music.

After graduating I was awarded a position at the Henry Mancini Institute (2003) in Los Angeles and was privileged to work with some of the biggest names in music including Diana Krall and Christian McBride.

My favorite type of music to play these days is traditional Irish folk music, or "Irish trad". For the past few years I have immersed myself heavily in New York's traditional Irish music scene. I play regularly at several establishments in New York City alongside some of the city's finest Irish music players.

A large part of my teaching style is that you are having FUN, you are enjoying what you are learning, no matter your skill level. Even if you are an absolute beginner, we might work on playing the chorus or the riff of the song. For example, one year I had a very happy 6-year old boy learn the theme to Star Wars and another college student learning the music of MGMT.

Mary-Elizabeth taught me violin for 2 years. I was brand new and she made picking up violin easy and enjoyable. She recognizes current and future problems and suggests exercises to correct them. She always has a positive attitude, which helped me avoid getting frustrated. Her classes were relaxed and thorough. I could not have asked for a better teacher!

We met Mary-Elizabeth for the first time in January 2009 by recommendation of The Royal Danish Academy of Music.
We were looking for a private violin teacher for my daughter Elisabeth, age 13, who at that time had never played an instrument before and was clearly shy and nervous about the project.
From the very first lesson, Mary-Elizabeth not only showed the skills and the basic technique of teaching the violin to younger children, but most impressing was her enthusiasme and joy that immidiately spread to the student. You could tell, that this was a teacher who loved playing too!!
And that opened all the doors for the difficult practising and today I have a daughter who enjoys so much playing that she brings the violin on every holiday to make sure she always has the instrument nearby!
I can sincerely recommend Mary-Elizabeth for teaching and I guarantee you, the students will love playing and look foreward to her lessons!

I love watching my students grow through performing songs and pieces they enjoy. I like to emphasize solid foundations such as posture and coordination through specific exercises, but I also like to assign pieces my students would enjoy playing and try to provide performing opportunities for them whenever possible, since I believe performing and sharing music is one of the most rewarding aspects of learning violin.

About Johnna
I am a professional violinist from New York. I graduated with a Masters of Music from The Juilliard School, and I received my Bachelors of Arts degree from Columbia University with degrees in Music History and Theory as well as Biology.

I teach my students how to be comfortable with their posture as well as self-awareness when learning the violin. I particularly focus on efficient and focused practicing techniques and skills.

I am particularly passionate about contemporary music and improvisation, but I believe that solid foundations and fundamentals are the key to playing anything and everything!

I love teaching adults because we can build up meaningful relationships and have intriguing conversations through music! I am fully equipped to teach from absolute beginners to semi-professionals who had chosen a non-music career path. Let's work together to achieve your goal, and make beautiful music.

About Keiko
I am a violinist of the Attacca Quartet, a NY-based string quartet that has been traveling all over the world! In addition to concertizing, my colleagues and I teach students of all levels wherever we go; we have given lessons, masterclasses and lectures in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Ireland, Australia, Japan, UAE... good thing we all speak the universal language of humanity: music.

I grew up in Yokohama, Japan, but I decided that I was ready to explore the world when I was finishing up the 10th grade. I moved to New York to pursue a musical life and career. I have Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Violin Performance, as well as Artist Diploma in String Quartet Studies from The Juilliard School.

I have been teaching students of all ages since 2005. Many of them were young children who simply enjoy playing the vi
olin, but I have had several students win domestic and international competitions. While I enjoyed the experience of being a part of numerous children's lives tremendously, I am slowly moving towards teaching adults because my busy tour life does not allow for me to be in town all the time.

With my adult students, I often encourage them to work on a solo repertoire of an appropriate level, as well as an ensemble piece that would allow us to develop our musicianship. I am very friendly and casual, but if you ask me to, I can be very tough (I was raised by a tiger mom.)

If you are a beginner and need help with reading music in general, don't worry- I teach a course called "Ear Training" at Juilliard, so that can be a part of our lessons as well.

I look forward to meeting you and making music together!

One of the best teachers of violin and viola playing is offering lessons. She posses knowledge of Russian old school of violin/viola playing ,and she holds a doctorate degree from Louisiana state University. She is a prize winner of several international and national competitions. 7 years of experience in teaching. Lessons can be done at your house or online.
"To my mind, the role of a teacher is no less important than the role of a doctor, that is why a doctor and a teacher have to be highly professional. I think a teacher has to have individual methods for each student in order to make an efficient collaboration."

About Anna
In the past several years, I have received extensive performing and varied teaching experience. While doing my bachelor degree in music performance in Russia I took a string pedagogy course and on the last year of my degree my teacher asked me to substitute for him during the times he was away. In the US, I started my teaching experience on the first year of my DMA degree, teaching viola to private students and in a music school in Zachary, Louisiana. Teaching very young students from pre-school to sixth grade has helped me to develop my skills in organizing lessons, making short-term and long-term goals, and to be able to maintain student interest in music. While working with students it is important to be able to explain an individual that one will understand you and will make it happen, but most importantly is to make the student to en
joy playing an instrument and to develop skills which will be useful in life. During the second and third year of my DMA studies, I was appointed as a teaching assistant at Louisiana State University. My responsibilities in this position entailed teaching undergraduate students and giving complementary lessons. My qualifications in instrumental coaching included every level from 6 years old through university. In teaching and performing areas combined, I have almost 11 years of a professional experience earned through a variety of short-term and full-time positions.
