Hello there! My name is Lauren, and I'm an NYC-based violinist with over 15 years of experience teaching violin. I earned my BM and MM degrees from Eastman School of Music in Violin Performance and perform regularly at venues such as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and the Kennedy Center.

As a teacher, I adapt my teaching methods on the spot to introduce and reinforce concepts in a patient, enthusiastic, and creative manner tailored to each student. In addition to equipping my students with proper violin technique, students are empowered and develop their communication skills and confidence while fostering a lasting curiosity for learning and a genuine love for the imaginative and expressive capabilities of music.

Lessons generally focus on four major areas: scales, etudes, ensemble parts (orchestra and chamber music), and solo repertoire. Music theory and ear-training activities supplement work in these areas. A portion of lesson time is also devoted to preparing students for entrance and seating auditions, when applicable. In addition to weekly lessons, my students perform solos in recitals and are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular ensembles.

About Lauren C.

In addition to my teaching, I maintain an international career as a performer. I've performed at festivals such as Venice Biennale, Acht Brücken, Newport Jazz, Beijing Modern Music Festival, and Lincoln Center.

Next season, I'll give the premiere of Jeffrey Mumford's Violin Concerto No.2 with Chicago Composer's Orchestra (Spring 2022).

As a sought-after collaborator and recording artist, my playing has been broadcast on WNYC, ORF Radio Wien, WDR Köln, Radio SRF 2 Kultur, and NBC’s Saturday Night Live.

FANTASTIC TEACHER! Lauren taught me for 2 years as an adult beginner and I could not have asked for a better experience She is so patient, kind and encouraging. During our time I believe I made tremendous progress with her instruction even though halfway though we had to switch to remote lessons because of Covid. Phenomenal person and gifted teacher!!

Thank you Ms. Lauren for helping me grow as a violinist. You made the lesson so enjoyable and I found the notes that you made for me so helpful for my weekly practice. I wasn't sure how online lessons would be during the pandemic, but you made it so easy to follow along the lesson over Zoom and shared notes over the screen which made it so much easier to learn. Thank you for helping me practice for my audition pieces for which I got accepted for 2 different orchestras. You were always very positive and so patient throughout and taught me fun tricks and ways to make my weekly practice better. Thank you!

Lauren is a cheerful and patient instructor. She has helped our daughter elevate her skill and proficiency with the violin, and encouraged her to expand her style and technique. Lauren is always punctual, and she seems willing to spend a few extra minutes if necessary at the end of each lesson. She's also flexible with her scheduling. If we have a conflict, she does her best to work around it. Highly recommended.

Lauren is an amazing violin instructor to our 11 year old son. She is always on time, has a great way with kids, and really brought out his confidence. I over heard him in the lesson saying “ohhh, that’s how you do it.” Lauren is a highly accomplished musician and outstanding teacher. We highly recommend her to anyone.

When I first started studying with Lauren in 2017, I was a freshman in high school and stuck in the fifth stand of my orchestra. Six months later, I moved up to being the concert master. Lauren is amazing. She brings out the best in my playing. She has a great ear for music, she is an amazing violinist, and the best teacher I have ever had. With Lauren I was able to progress from 3rd position to 7th position in a short time. She is very kind and patient, and never gets frustrated with me (unlike all my other teachers). She is the reason I have been able to excel at violin. Best. Teacher. Ever.

Lauren is a thorough and excellent violin teacher. She goes through technique, skills, and methods of playing and practicing that will last you through your entire musical life. She leaves you able to teach yourself and excited to learn more. Lauren has widespread of skills across chamber music, solo pieces, and classical music. She has coached me in CMC, and now as a private coach at home. I am so excited to continue our lessons, and continue to learn and master the violin.

Lauren is an excellent teacher for adult students!

At the age of 54 I decided to purchase a violin and learn to play. I found Lauren Cauley through Takelessons.com and could not be more pleased with her!! She has taught me so much in my first four weeks. She's patient with me and encourages me when I get discouraged with my play. She is quick to answer the numerous questions I have. She is an extremely talented musician with a talent for teaching. She pushes me in my weekly assignments and ensures I've mastered one level before we move to the next. Thanks Lauren!!
