Beginners typically take 60 minute classes once per week at a recurring time. Young children typically take half hour classes and older children, adult musicians and those on a budget typically take 45 minute classes. The most common lesson length to start with is 60 minutes, as the teacher will need to tune your instrument and help you get set up. Some students choose to take lessons twice per week when a concert is coming up, to catch up from a vacation or if they just want to make faster progress.
In class, you will learn new techniques, receive guidance on how to achieve the best sound possible and learn songs that you like and that interest you. You are expected to take this guidance and practice it thoroughly at home until you feel comfortable with it, so that when you are in class next, the teacher can move on to a new concept or skill which builds upon the skill practiced at home. They will only move you forward once you can do the more basic technique.

I have been teaching violin for seven years. Though I am classically trained, my interest in music goes far beyond classical music. I am constantly listening to various genres of music and consider myself a forever learner, loving everything in music from Prokofiev to the Flaming Lips. It is my job to help guide my students through their musical journeys, whether that is helping them get into their regional orchestra or teaching them that one song they've always wanted to learn. I teach out of the Essential Elements and Suzuki Method books. Though my lessons are fun and relaxed I will always give my students that extra push when needed. My goal is to help each student reach their personal success and to instill a love for playing music.
Tools for lessons:
Music Stand
Rosin
Shoulder rest or sponge
Previous method books (if you are not a first time learner)
Metronome
Pencil

Not only do I have certification in specifically private lessons, but I have a very wide range of experience. I have played classical music, quartet music, new compositions, avant-garde pieces, and also in jazz and rock bands. I taught music professionally in public schools for 5 years, and I've been teaching privately for 7. I'm an active professional performer, as well as a composer, and the former principal violist of The Parker Symphony.
About Andrew
I love music, and I love teaching music. I have been actively involved in the music industry since 2008, performing in classical concerts, quartet performances, and even rock and indie bands. I love passing my expertise on and igniting a passion for playing in others.

- Jillian"

Anna is an outstanding teacher who really understands how to get through to a student! She places a lot of emphasis on physical aspects of violin technique such as relaxation, that often go unaddressed by most teachers, leading to future problems.
The most striking thing about Anna's pedagogical style is that she is truly passionate about bringing the music to life. She constantly emphasizes the emotional interpretation of the music, however simple the piece may be, and ensures that the student projects the right tonal quality and color to bring out these interpretations.
Working with her has been a great experience, and I always eagerly look forward to the next lesson!"

Having trouble with your violin vibrato? It's a difficult technique to learn, but once you've mastered it, you'll be able to create that beautiful, almost shimmering sound that professional violinists boast. Vibrato is best learned with a private violin teacher, who can guide you through specific exercises, as well as help you avoid bad habits and poor technique. As you begin perfecting your violin vibrato, you may notice that certain habits work their way into your playing, which should be t …
