It was truly a pleasure meeting Concetta for my first ever violin lesson. It is difficult to learn anything at the age 40, specially a musical instrument, but she made it comfortable and easy to understand. She's extremely patient a key quality when teaching a subject such a music to anyone. I would say, give her teaching style a try and you won't regret it. Very knowledgeable indeed.

He's my first teacher - I have never learned singing elsewhere before. He says I learn fast, but the truth is that he knows how to give the best exercises and advice to make the student realise one's full potential. Practising while following the advice he pointed out during the lesson, I suddenly found myself near 3-octave range within the first couple of lessons, and now we are working on rounding the tone and make it into a beautiful singing voice. On top of it, he's also very funny and approachable.

If I had more stars I would still indicate the maximum. I have been working with Shauna for a while. I am a (very) amateur singer, but really wish to work on my voice -- I love singing and also consider doing so in public my last phobia. Shauna is so knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and empathetic. I feel far from being "pushed," I am instead treated with remarkable understanding of where I'm at vocally and what I need in terms of both technique and support. I feel very lucky to work with her; she's a joy!

SINGING IS BREATHING OUT

I call myself a teacher of singing, rather than voice, because singing is an expression of behavior which involves imagination, intention, and musical artistry.

My fundamental principal is to sing with relased flow of breath, without interfering, holding back the breath or darkening the voice. One does not “make” voice; one lets it happen. My students learn (are guided) to release compensatory tensions in the vocal tract and the body, to perceive subtler physical sensations associated with singing, along with increased ease and spontaneity, the feeling that one’s singing is personal.

My studio comprises students of differing ages and proficiencies, from beginner to artist level. My years of teaching at the LaGuardia HS of Performing Arts (the “Fame’ school) helped me to become patient and resourceful with beginners, many of whom are now pursuing distinguished performing careers at the highest level.

About Peter
TEACHER: I've maintained a studio in New York for over twenty years. I taught on the faculties of the 92nd Street Y School of Music, the Laguardia High School of the Arts (the “Fame” school), and taught workshops and MC’s for singers and actors in Greece. At Laguardia HS, I taught singing and directed the Opera Workshop; many of my students have gone on to leading conservatories, and to distinguished performing careers.

I’m a graduate of the Juilliard School (BS) and NYU (MS), and studied privately with Antonia Lavanne, Richard Torigi, Edvin Sazamosi, Renato Capecchi, et al. I attended Oberlin Vocal Pedagogy Institute, Centro Studi Italiani (Urbania, Italy), Montclair Voice Science Workshop, and the NYSTA Professional Development Program, of which I am a Distinguished Professional.

I’m the Treasurer of the New York Singing Teachers
’ Association, and a member of NATS, NYSTA, AMTL, NOA, and Opera America.

PERFORMER: I graduated from the Juilliard School, and New York University, and was a Finalist in the competition of the Center for Contemporary Opera. I’ve sung principal roles with Vineyard Theater, Encompass Theater, Stonington Opera Arts, Vertical Player Repertory, Pensacola Opera, Chattanooga Opera, Rockland Opera, Bronx Opera, and others. Soloist at Carnegie Hall (Stern Auditorium and Weill Recital Hall), the 92nd Street Y, Austrian Cultural Forum, the Actors Studio, and other venues in the United States, Italy, and Switzerland. Press reviews have cited my "warm and persuasive singing,” and described me as "a wonderful singing actor."
