Music is definitely the universal language, and there isn't a genre I don't love; it's important to me that that aspect be brought to lessons, as well! From humble New Jersey beginnings to an opera career, I've seen the power of what music can do!
Whether it's opera, musical theater, folk, rock, or just public speaking, anything YOU love to do, I would love to teach you! Having taught all ages and levels, from first graders to adults, from someone who's never sung a note in his or her life to semi-professionals, I cater my lessons to what YOU as a student need and are interested in.
Lessons shouldn't be a chore - I like to foster an environment you look forward to being a part of! I also think that music, like any sport, is hard work, and takes seriously practice; even hobbies take concentration and application! I understand and can
work with many schedules and work loads, but I expect my students to put at least half the effort into their lessons that I do!
I teach all styles, voice types and ages. Whatever type of music you like to sing, I can teach you how to sing it correctly and healthily. We will pick material appropriate for you and apply the technique to it. I focus on general knowledge of vocal registers, breath control, phrasing and style.
With more than 29 years of performance experience, I offer my students a fun, science-backed technique that is perfect for all ages and levels. I trained at Juilliard, Pepperdine University, and hold a degree from The New School. Here is my full professional bio:

Every lesson is for YOU. The time we spend together is time for you to explore your voice, your goals, and desires within music. I specialize in beginner/intermediate singers looking to expand their voice, repertoire, and love of singing. No lesson will be the same, and every lesson will be a shared experience in which we learn how your voice works, and how it feels.
Lessons include, but are not limited too, repertoire exploration, music theory, range expansion, vocal pedagogy/vocal anatomy, performance preparation, character coaching .....and much more.
I'm a professional singer/teacher residing in New York City with degrees from Indiana State University, and New York University with a specialization in Classical Art Song, Musical Theatre Repertoire, and Vocal Pedagogy.
Every lesson is about YOU. So each week we will take a look at your goals for the lesson, whether you are preparing for college auditions, school talents shows, a desire to work with music theory, or piano skills, this is your opportunity to explore. Everything is possible.
As a professional singer myself, I am constantly auditioning on broadway, off-broadway, and for smaller local and regional theater opportunities. I believe that as a teacher I have to continue to be in the field and learning as the industry continues to change. I have to be aware of the opportunities in this business. I have been hired by pr
ofessional opera and musical theatre companies, in additional to large choral works as a soloist, and have a private studio in Washington Heights.
Prior to NYC I taught middle school choir for 200+ students, of which I received teacher of the year in 2012. I also still hold a valid teaching license in the state of Indiana and currently applying toward my NYS teaching certification.
Within my voice studio I teach in person and online lessons. While online lessons can be beneficial for students wishing to study with me that are not in the immediate vicinity, I recommend in person lessons
I look forward to hearing your beautiful voice and helping you to embrace music!
Shelley is fantastic. She made me feel at ease right away, even though I have no prior singing experience and I was incredibly nervous. As early as my second lesson, I could already hear a difference in my voice when I listened back to the recording of our session! She really knows what she's doing and it shows. I highly recommend Shelley. In addition to being a great music teacher - which she is - she's also so pleasant to work with! She's fast to respond, very accommodating with her schedule, friendly and easygoing, and professional. I started out thinking I'd just take a few weeks' worth of lessons to get out of my comfort zone. Over a year later, I'm still here, and looking forward to every week.

Ms. Shelley is very dedicated to every one of her students. It is a pleasure working with her!
March 4, 2019
Shelley is by far the best voice teacher I have ever had. Within the short duration of time that I have worked with her, I have noticed that my voice has significantly changed (it feels and sounds better) after using her techniques. She knows what she’s talking about and offers substantial and specific criticism. She individualizes every student, in that she chooses repertoire that benefits a particular voice instead of assuming that every student has the same voice and strengths/weaknesses. This is a very important skill for a voice teacher to have. Shelley is also very good at time management within a lesson. Most importantly, she makes the experience fun! I would highly recommend Shelley to anyone who is looking for a voice teacher! Thank you Shelley!

Singing is a very personal and transparent art form. Performing takes skill. It takes practice, commitment and fearlessness. I believe anyone can learn to sing with applying learned skills in these ways. It all comes dependent on the artist and time, but I believe in you and it can be done. Lessons: It is very important to feel comfortable when learning something new so that you are not afraid to fail. Getting over the fear of failing is the initial part that will free you to experiment with your voice and really grow. You will find a safe space here to do that. In our lessons we will work on vocal agility, range, improvisation, healthy singing and healthy projection, diction, harmony, different genres and music theory. I am so excited to get to know you and your voice and how much you will grow!
Leah, a teacher, singer/songwriter, musician, entertainer and Berklee College of Music graduate.
She loves teaching and loves her students. Her main joy in teaching is watching her students grasp a new understanding and appreciation for their desired art and growing in their skills and talent. She loves seeing her students overcome obstacles. In her lessons, Leah sets the tone for care and a safe space to truly grow fearlessly. It is important to grow in confidence in your craft. In lessons, she covers setting a foundation, different genres, confidence, warm-up exercises, vocal techniques, ear training, music theory, harmony, performance techniques, audition preparation, range, improvisation, agility, freedom and more. She focusses on a few things at a time and has her students grow into other areas to work.
Musically, she provides
sounds and smooth tones of Jazz and Soul. Her latest EP entitled SonKissed is Jazz influenced music with Neo-Soul vibes and a positive message about love and life. She has been singing around Boston and New York and writing and recording new music. She has great things in store for her in the near future and much music and passion to share with the world.
Originating from Henderson, North Carolina, she grew up singing in school, church and choirs including the Raleigh Girls Choir of Raleigh, NC. Taking singing and piano lessons grew her love for music. She always had a fondness of jazz music starting at a young age, as her father would play jazz music. Studying music has led her to perform in recitals, concerts and festivals such as the Mozart Music Festival with The Capital City Girl’s Choir in Vienna, Austria, to study and perform abroad in Valencia, Spain, to graduate from Berklee College of Music and to continue writing, performing and growing as an artist. Leah also enjoys being involved in and performing in community events as she gives back. It is very important to her to help others as many have helped her.
She gets much of her inspiration from influences such as Jesus Christ, her parents, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Dianne Reeves, Lisa Fischer, Sammy Davis Jr., Sade, Anita O’day, India Arie, Erykah Badu, Adele, Diana Ross, Alicia Keys, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Mary Mary, Robin Thicke, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Esperanza Spalding, Miles Davis, Al Jarreau, Nancy Wilson, Ledisi, Sounds of Blackness, Take 6, Gretchen Parlato, and Quincy Jones just to name a few.
Leah was so knowledgeable and personable! After my first lesson, I’d say that she did a great job of explaining concepts that I typically struggle with, in simple ways. Her passion for teaching and her skill at singing both show! I’m so happy I found her!!
June 26, 2018
I have worked with Leah for quite some time now for vocal training. I have heard a major improvement in my voice with regards to vocal strength and breath control. I would reccomend Leah for vocal training.

"Josh is a great teacher with an obvious passion for music! He is easy going, energetic, and fun in his lessons. He is knowledgeable and has a lot of exper
ience in writing original music and performing in many venues. He has great aural skills and can help with developing the ability to harmonize and sight sing. I highly recommend him to any aspiring musician of any age!"
"Fawn is a wonderful teacher! I was in the process of prepping for acting conservatories, some schools require the students to sing; Fawn helped this extre
mely inexperienced singer sound pretty good and confident for her auditions. Fawn is extremely professional and light hearted, she'll never make you feel uncomfortable about your performance. Fawn is encouraging and very talented, I could hear improvement within my performance by my third lesson. You'll never feel stuck when rehearsing with her and she's full of suggestions. I would recommend Fawn to anyone wanting to take singing lessons!"
"Matt is a bright presence. He's made remarkable strides with my son's singing voice and demonstrated dynamic approach to teaching."
"Desiree puts the fun in fundamentals!
I decided to take voice lessons for pleasure as a hobby to keep my mind off of the stresses of daily life. I had a
lot of confidence issues to get over when I started taking lessons with Desiree; mainly because I didn't want to embarrass myself like those people I make fun of on American Idol. Her non-threatening teaching style has been the perfect fit for me...although she does raise her voice at me when I judge myself too harshly, but I won't count against her ;) My confidence has soared and I feel that I'm a much bolder and more comfortable singer. Iâm enjoying every minute of discovering my voice with Desiree. I've still got some work to do but I'm confident she'll help me reach my goals."
"This teacher is fantastic
I have really enjoyed my lessons with Kenneth. He gives 100% and I am proud to be one of his students. i am enjoying my lessons
very much and I highly recommend him to others."
"Great initial lesson! We're excited about the prospects for improvement!"
"I can finally sing with confidence!
I'm a 29 year old aspiring actress who lives in Hollywood. I've always loved to sing but often felt challenged when s
inging with my upper register. And because of that I was not comfortable to go to certain auditions that require singing. About 3 months ago I decided to make a change and start taking voice lessons with Melody. Melody was referred by one of my actor friends who also took lessons from her and found helpful. At our first lesson she conducted a thorough vocal assessment and pointed out my trouble area, which is singing with upper register. She also corrected my breathing habits at the spot and we warmed up for 20 mins. Right after the 1st session I could feel the improvement and I was very excited. With the practical techniques Melody teaches me, after only three months I can say that I'm in love with singing, and I'm much more confidant with my voice. Next time I'm definitely gonna take the audition that requires singing!
Melody is very nice and enthusiastic, definitely worth trying!"
"Brad is very knowledgeable. Very impressed. Being nervous he helped me to relax some. Can't wait to get back next week. I think I am going to enjoy lear
