About Sandra

If you just want to learn software programs or camera operation, go elsewhere. But if you want to learn to SEE and become a true photographer, Sandra is the coach to work with. Although software and hardware are certainly part of our discussion, software and cameras don't make pictures – you, your eye, and your experience are what make your pictures different and interesting.

Every person's path toward becoming a better photographer is unique. Sandra has helped hundreds and hundreds of professional (and amateur) photographers significantly improve their photography and their enjoyment of it. Working with her, results are quick.

You will get far more out each session with Sandra than from a dozen sessions with others and you will learn more about yourself and your potential. Just bring your questions, a collection of your pictures

and we start from where you are.

Sandra is an internationally respected picture editor and designer with a unique experience that runs from contributions to scores of visual books to editing for the White House, work on major newspapers, and the Associated Press. She was instrumental in the creation of the original ground-breaking news site MSNBC.com as well as spearheading creation of the Defense Department's public web program. She has taught photography and editing at three universities and at workshops all over the U.S. and judged multiple national and international photography competitions. But Sandra is still easy to talk to and interested in YOUR concerns and pictures.

Sandra's key skill may be her ability to articulate visual concepts and issues. She can find and convey the underlying needs in a photographer's work and then help him/her find a personal, unique route to reaching his/her potential.

Always fully honest, Sandra is also completely supportive of helping any photographer – from beginner to seasoned professional– become better, see more, and understand their own work on new levels.

Sandra can certainly help with technical matters but her special forte is in helping photographers and designers see in new ways. She has worked with documentary, landscape, fine art, portrait and other photographers as well as designers and website builders.

Group sessions and critiques can also be arranged on request for additional fees.

I wish I could give Sandra TEN stars; five are not enough. She's the best! She helped me see my pictures, and the world, in new ways. I was lucky enough to see her work with a variety of photographers, from students just starting out, to professionals who had been working in the field for years. They all had great things to say about her, and how she showed them how to improve their portfolios. Many of them went on to win contests thanks to her teaching. If you want a teacher that is easily approachable and very accessible, has a wonderful sense of humor, and will take you and your photos to a new level, do yourself a favor and contact Sandra. You'll be amazed!

About Jessica

I am a visual artist who has been exhibiting my artwork across the US since 2009 and teaching since 2006. I got my BA from Vassar College, and a Masters in Education through the NYC Teaching Fellows program. I am deeply passionate about drawing and love to share this passion with others. I believe that art isn't for the talented few but for the passionate many and what counts most of all is that you're having fun!

My drawings tend to celebrate the beautiful and surprising in the mundane. I have worked in a variety of media but my preferred material is good old-fashioned pencil on paper. I have had solo and group exhibitions, my work has been published in print and online, one of my drawings is on the cover of a philosophy book, I have exhibited at several art fairs, and I have won many fellowships, grants, and artist residencies.

Our drawing lessons will begin with learning to use the most basic materials: charcoal, erasers, pencil and paper. We will spend a lot of time learning the art of looking because above all, drawing is about observation and translating what you see.
You will begin to notice improvements in your skills after the first class!

I look forward to drawing with you.

My 6 year old daughter really enjoyed her online drawing lesson with Jessica. The lesson was well-structured and thought through. The materials Jessica picked were diverse and informative. I was amazed how Jessica made the online lesson seem as if she was right here in our house. I asked my daughter how many more lessons should I set up for her and she answered: many, many more! I strongly recommend Jessica to any student learning graphite drawing!

Both of my children take class with Jessica. She keeps the lesson fun and really encourages both of my children. She is very talented and knows how to reach young artists to help inspire them. I highly recommend her as an instructor. This was our third class with her and we have every intention to continue taking lessons with her.

Jessica is really a great teacher and a nice person! She helps me from a completely beginner to finish a detailed pencil sketch portrait in 15hrs. Definitely recommended.

About Daniel

My name is Dan. The only thing that I love more than painting is teaching students how to paint. I call my teaching method, "serious play". In other words, I want the students to learn something of value during each class, but also to enjoy the creative process that is key to making a successful painting.

Keep the brushes wet, make every stroke count! Very patient - you’ve just got to do it. Been invaluable in guiding the composition - he can’t hold the brush for you! For a “left brained” person like myself I need to get the “slap”!😄

"Julie is one amazing teacher and is amazing at with every learning style. I would highly recommend!"

"Kai is a masterful painting instructor who is immensely skilled with his craft. His philosophy in painting is very inspiring, and has long stayed with me
in my career as an artist. Unlike professors in art colleges, Kai gives informative demos, and in all honesty has taught me more technical skills than my art college (and most other art colleges) did alone. I would definitely recommend Kai to any artist/painter (both new and experienced) out there, he’s both professional and approachable as an instructor."

"Jonathan is such an inspiring and motivating photographer.

I was fortunate enough to participate in one of his workshops almost a year back. This revie
w is based on the amazing experience during the workshop and highly beneficial interactions with him beyond that.

The workshop itself was wonderful. Jonathan made sure that every participant understood exactly what he was talking about on a one on one basis. ‘Patience’ - the virtue great photographers are known for was on display live. There were beginners, intermediate and professional level photographers and each of them learned a lot from Jonathan and from each other. The biggest impact was the photography community feeling Jonathan created in us and all of us interacts with each other even after a year and learn together via social media groups.

As part of the conference, there was a street photography session where we interacted with strangers and got their photographs. It was a great experience. Being new to Minneapolis and from a different culture and upbringing, this experience helped me to gain a lot of confidence and finally I was able to come out of my shell.

The best part about Jonathan is, he helps me out so much with my photography even months after the workshop. Also, he provides the opportunity to assist during photo shoots which help me a lot to learn just by observing. It really really helps me improve my photography knowledge and experience.

I would definitely recommend Jonathan to anyone who is looking to get into the photography world. He is such a great teacher who will inspire and be with you throughout your journey!!"

"Just had a photography lesson with Mark last night. He was great. He explained everything in a clear and concise manner that I could easily understand. He
also listened to what I wanted to topics that I wanted to learn and tailored his presentation to cover those topics. Thanks, Dan."
