Terrible experience. Couldn't connect online, 20 minutes after start time called him and he tried to assist, but ended up doing a "phone lesson" which consisted of a question and answer time where I had to come up with my own questions. To conclude we were told to go out and take some pictures on our own and learn from experimenting on our own taking pictures of all kinds of things. We could then download them, send to him, and he could critique.
Not what I expected. Not necessarily his fault, but Going to ask for refund

when I made an appointment, I asked if Sergey was familiar with my camera and they said yes. It seemed new to him. But after talking about my fijifilm x100F, I am returning the camera. So overall I did like Sergey and look forward to my next Hour

About John
Here goes...
I am a chess teacher, tutor, singer, and Shakespearean actor in NYC! I guess you could say I wear a lot of hats.

I graduated with honors in 2009 from New York University with a BFA in Drama. I've been professionally teaching since 2012, but I have always loved sharing the game of chess with anyone who wants to learn (just ask my friends).

Students can expect to face new challenges and to improve each and every week. I am happy to work with students of all different ages and experience levels. As a teacher in the New York Public School system, I know how to make chess simple and friendly enough for Kindergartners, Senior Citizens, and everyone in between! And as an active tournament player (current rating 2000), I can offer great insight into the needs of any skill level. I am thrilled to work with ambitious tournament playe
rs and those who just want to learn how to beat their friends :).

Chess is a wonderful, challenging game, but I truly believe that anyone can learn to play if they are motivated. Come work with me and discover your new obsession!

John is an excellent instructor. A complete beginner, after working with him I’ve turned a casual curiosity into a real hobby. I leave each session excited having learned something valuable and difficult to obtain otherwise (from books or online videos.) I highly recommend John.

As soon as you get to understand chess well, you'll begin to see it's beauty and depth. Each game is an adventure. I love chess, and that is my perspective of the old and romantic game of kings and queens. I also enjoy teaching it that way, as it makes the game fun to learn and play.

About Eli
Chess can be confusing and difficult sometimes, but really all you need is someone who loves chess to help you love it, and see it for its beauty. We'll play a few games together, so I see where what level you're at, then take you from there. From a beginners level, up to advanced, showing you the ins and outs of this exciting game. I'll show you games from the great players, teach you some history, give you puzzles, and watch you grow until one day, you might even beat me in a game! It'll be fun!

I think that pawn breaks are an important concept in chess so I tend to include some kind of position where a central breakthrough may be played and would make the game more critical. Moreover I customize the type of positions in which we study those based on the kind of player you are and your skill levels (some openings leads to sharper positions than others). Finally endgames and tactics are also something to focus on according to what the student wants to get to.

About Léo
I enjoy playing and learning about chess so and that has made me a more prolific chess player and more knowledgeable chess teacher. I believe the amount of lines someone may remember is directly related to his/her strength. The way I've taken chess more seriously over the last couple of years allowed me to improve a lot, and the directions I've been taking are the ones that I share with my students in order to bring them to the level they're trying to get.
