As I said in my profile, I play all styles and so I teach all styles. This is an important point as many teachers only teach classical and if you want to learn a song by Sam Smith, the Beatles or perhaps something from "Frozen", they'll say 'buy the sheet music'. I teach music theory (after the fundamentals of music are learned) and if the student desires, he or she can learn how to improvise. This does not mean jazz necessarily, but learning to elaborate on a dull sheet music arrangement.

About David
Greetings, future students. I've been teaching piano for 30 years. I'm a professional pianist working mostly in Manhattan's major hotels. I play all styles of music and so I can teach all styles. Classical (I was accepted to the Juilliard Preparatory School at age 12), pop, jazz, blues, Broadway etc. I believe that learning to play the piano should be an enjoyable experience. Just as Sesame Street came up with the concept that learning can be fun, I do the same. Children as well as adults truly like me. This is extremely important. Thank you for reading my profile.

Davis was my son's teacher when he was at middle school. Great experience, my son enjoyed every minute of it, especially introduction to jazz and blues. Unfornately we have moved but lessons with David had a big impact in my son's decision to exploring piano more and now he is a freshman at UCF, in major piano reformance. Thank you again:)

I use many methodologies when teaching to help students achieve their goals. After getting to know my students I adapt a lesson plan that helps them learn best. I think the most important aspect of teaching is to really help the student understand, appreciate and enjoy the music they are working on along with sound practice strategies. Then it really makes all that hard work worth it. From the beginning I will help my student learn whatever style or songs they are interested in.

About Michael
I've been teaching students of all ages about piano/keyboards, guitar, and voice lessons for the last 16 years. I cover many styles and methodologies depending on the needs of the student. My lessons can be structured to cover theory, sight-reading, technique as well as how to play by ear and music transcription. It can be a very traditional approach or more contemporary if your goal is to play in a band or be a solo performer. Whatever it is that you want to learn or improve, I can help you achieve your goals. I have a BA in music with classical piano as my focus. I was the music director at two Methodist churches in NJ, and I still occasionally play with the parish drive band when they need me. I play in an 80's rock band called My You Choose, where we raise money for various organizations like CUMAC to help feed hungry people in NJ. I
also do solo gigs or parties whenever I get the opportunity.

I have been Caroline's student for several years now, and she is an excellent teacher. She is a superb pianist (as her credentials indicate), but she was also encouraging, supportive and attuned to me as a student. She was able to isolate particular trouble spots and suggest ways to fix the problems at those spots.

My goal as a teacher is to teach my students how to reach their goals. I believe that the steps in learning to play an instrument can be applied to any other achievement in life. Setting goals, breaking them down into manageable tasks, and disciplining oneself to put in the time and energy will eventually lead to success (and beautiful music if applied to one's daily practice). I am happy to see my students blossom in confidence and creativity as they follow my teaching over the years they study with me.  I teach and play music to share the joy of music-making and to give my students a foundational knowledge and the skills they need to succeed.

I enjoy playing a variety of styles which include classical (I've had 20 years of classical training), pop, jazz-fusion, and piano arrangements of other well-known tunes. I teach my students songs that they want to play while introducing other pieces that complement their musical education. In lessons, each student receives a combination of

About Stacey
Most students in my studio range from age 4 to 12 years old when they begin their piano studies. I also teach female adults with beginner to intermediate experience as well. To keep things fun in the lessons, I incorporate sight reading apps as well as listening exercises to develop both reading and listening skills. My piano teaching combines time efficiency with fun and teach my students how to practice at home with the same spirit we have in the lessons.

I hold a Master's Degree in Piano Performance from the Manhattan School of Music and have completed two years in piano pedagogy courses at the college level. I am currently teaching 15 students at my private studio and would love to see if we are a good fit for each other as teacher and student.

Stacey taught all four of our children piano lessons weekly when she lived in the Midwest. She is great with the kids and is not only talented and knowledgeable about music, but also passionate about the art form. She was excellent about keeping them interested and excited about music and performance. I highly recommend her.

I strive to create an individualized experience for every student. I hope my students feel supported and able to express their creativity at every skill level. I work to create an effective balance of technique, repertoire, and fun so that students can look forward to their lessons and be excited about their progress.

In addition to improving technique and repertoire knowledge, I work on ear training and theory so that students can gain the most of their experience and continue to teach themselves throughout the week during practice sessions and listening to music in every-day life. I ask students to bring in their favorite popular songs so that we can get them playing and connecting with their favorite tunes.

About Sarah
I am a teacher, performer, composer, arranger, engineer, and so much more. My love of music began when I started taking lessons at age 5 and continued through a Bachelor's Degree in Piano and Music Technology. I have taken private lessons from incredible musicians, become proficient in many styles including jazz, rock, blues, soul, classical, and more. I have performed throughout the US with various groups and recently recorded an album of my original music. I have loved learning about arranging and music technology, picking up new hobbies and instruments, and bringing others with me along the way.

I am a graduate of the Columbia-Juilliard exchange program with ten years of teaching experience in beginner to intermediate classical piano and beginner to advanced jazz piano. I also teach accordion, as well as jazz and pop composition, jazz theory and music history. I'm a full time performing musician, so I can teach skills that are relevant to a performing career, but I'm also just as happy to teach someone who has never played an instrument before. Every student is different, and so I believe in catering my lesson plan to the needs and wants of each student, beginning from their goals and working towards a comprehensive knowledge of the piano.

About Ben
My name is Ben, and I am a full-time performing jazz pianist and accordionist based in New York City (you can learn more about my music career in my professional bio, which is included below). I have been teaching for ten years in just about every setting (from classroom to private, young to old, jazz and classical). I love teaching because I love learning how to communicate and connect with people of all different backgrounds and learning styles, and I enjoy sharing the journey of music with others and coming to understand what music means to them. Every person has a different goal, and if I can help people learn how to take manageable steps towards that goal every day, I feel I have succeeded. Hope to meet you soon!

Professional Bio:

Ben is a jazz pianist, accordionist and composer based in New York City, and a graduate of the exc
hange program between Columbia University and Juilliard School of Music. His work has garnered numerous awards, including the ASCAP Young Jazz Composers award in 2010 (and an honorable mention in 2018), the Downbeat Student Music Award for Best Original Song in 2010, and the Downbeat Student Music Award for Best Arrangement in 2011. Ben has played with the Bachiana Brasileira Orchestra at Lincoln Center (conducted by Joao Carlos Martins and featuring Dave Brubeck), as well as in Delhi, India, and at the Masten Jazz Festival (Buffalo), Richmond Jazz Festival (Richmond), Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival (Maryland) and Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival (Manhattan). He has also performed at Carnegie Hall, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, the Allen Room at Lincoln Center, Ryles Jazz Club, Webster Hall, Symphony Space, The Blue Note and a host of other locations throughout the northeast. Ben has worked extensively with such jazz luminaries as Curtis Lundy, Neal Smith, Winard Harper, Wayne Escoffery and Deborah Davis, and he has shared the stage with Houston Person, Jerry Dodgion, Warren Wolf, Eliot Zigmund and many more. Recently, Ben was a finalist at the 2015 American Jazz Pianist Competition in Melbourne, Florida, and at the 2016 Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition in Jacksonville, Florida.

Ben is the founder of the Columbia Jazz House, a student-run jazz advocacy group at Columbia University that promotes jazz on campus through concerts, educational workshops and jam sessions. I am a concert pianist and organist who has performed and taught private instructions for decades: from beginners to advanced players, adults coming back after a long time away, to clients who want custom arrangements, goals.

Though my bakground is the classical tradition, I've taught non-classical including jazz, pop, new age and other styles. Regardless, unless foundational study and structure is needed, students can expect to work on what music they like, and learn new skills to play it better. If I can play some of the most difficult piano ever written, then I have the answers to help YOU play better!

I look forward to working you!

About Jeb
Pianist and organist Jeb began piano study at the age of seven. At 11 he enrolled at the Silvermine School of Music in Norwalk, CT studying with Juliet Shaw and Sandra Shaw-Murphy. At 15 he started college-level study with Karen Shaw, Professor of Piano at Indiana University School of Music.

Jeb received a Bachelors in Piano from Indiana under Dr. Shaw, and Masters in Piano from State University of New York, Purchase, under Stephanie Brown.

He also studied with German Diez in New York, protege of international pianist Claudio Arrau. He has performed for many famous pianists, including Anthony Newman, Leslie Howard, David Dubal, Sarah Davis Buechner, Jeffrey Swan and Leonard Hokanson.

He has studied organ performance with pianist/organist Randall Atcheson and is currently Atcheson's Assistant Minister of Music at First Presbyter
