About Stephen
Stephen made his operatic debut in the title role of Gluck's Orfeo in Santa Barbara, CA. Other roles performed in the United States have been Oberon in Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, the title role in John Eccles' The Judgement of Paris and Sesto in La Clemenza di Tito by Mozart. Among the roles sung in Europe were Orlolsky in Fledermaus, Bertarido in Rodelinda and Oberon in Sommernachtstraum. He has been a soloist in many Churches and Synagogues in the United States and Europe. Highlights have been Messiah, Elijah, St. Mathew Passion and Cantorial soloist for the Jewish High Holidays. He appeared in Summer Stock and played the guitar in a number of bands. Reviewers have cited Stephen's naturally full and warm timbre and his unforced agility.

My 10 year old son has no musical knowledge what-so-ever. We wanted him to have some basics, and he was curious about the guitar. Sadly our family isn't musical and it's hard to know where to start. We were lucky to have engaged Stephen. His calm, patient, encouraging approach has been the perfect complement to my son's temperament.

When I overhear snippets of exchanges during their lesson I am excited that my son is making connections and having a conversation about what he's learning. I can't support his instruction because of my complete inability to read sheet music—so I am particularly pleased that he seems to be making observations and taking small steps towards understanding something that confounds me.

My son looks forward to his time with teacher and (so far) is interested in practicing too. Of course we'd recommend Stephen!

Everyone is unique (physically, mentally), and we all will play the piano our own way and for different reasons. Whether you want to learn how to build endurance, craft a great touch, improvise or interpret classical works, you first have to believe that you CAN, and with a little help, you WILL. I will cater what we work on to your individual curiosity, interests, personal goals, and how you naturally play the the piano. I will help you to discover your own voice on the instrument, and at the same time make sure you develop great technique and musical ability. You will learn to control what and how you play, and grow as a musician!

About Jonathan
I see each lesson with a student as another opportunity to help facilitate realization within them. Now in my fourth year as a professional freelance performing and teaching artist living in New York City, I currently hold a private studio of over 20 pupils, ages 6 to 65, professing a wide range of topics rooted in the subject matters of music, the arts, and spirituality.

Most of the subjects I teach are music related, in which I have over 6 years of Conservatory training, a Bachelor's and Master's degree, as well as over 15 years experience performing, recording, and competing on an international level. However, my interests, practices, and skillsets do extend beyond sound and visual art, and in the realm of spirituality.

I specialize in the following areas of musical study: General Music, Composition, Ear Training, Music History,
Music Theory, Sight Singing, and Songwriting. I also specialize in the following instruments: Trumpet and Piano/Keyboards. As a trumpeter, I have competed twice in international competitions presented by the International Trumpet Guild, and have participated in two audition based international intensive programs: at the School for Improvisational Music, and at the Banff Center in Alberta Canada. I was one of only two jazz trumpeters in the world to receive an audition for the 2014 Juilliard Artist Diploma Program in Jazz Trumpet, and besides touring as a musician in over 5 countries, I have served as an educator for the Afro-Latin Jazz Alliance created by GRAMMY-winning pianist Arturo O'Farrill, as well as the Gramercy Brass Orchestra of New York City.

I have also been practicing various forms of meditation practices and Yoga practices for the past 3 years. My influences span from Astral Projection to Reiki, to Vipassana Meditation, to Visualization Techniques, and much more. I believe and live by the idea that creativity is an energy that flows through us, and one's creative abilities can be improved and expanded, through the emotional body, which is influenced by one's perceptions. Throughout my training in music and the arts, I have realized that creative flow and love for what one is and does can be applied to anything in life.

Because of my 9+ years experience as a professional artist living in New York City, my students receive both guidance in discovering their own voice and comfort within their desired field of practice, and also practical approaches to retain and utilize their training and pre-ordained skill sets, with self-application and diligence. Through study with me, my students enable themselves to swiftly make progress and move toward a life of renewed purpose and fulfilment. Through specific assignments, exercises, and practices my students foster a real relationship with their instruments, and themselves, thus unlocking their creative minds, for usage in all aspects of their lives.

I teach out of a my home apartment studio on the upper east side, complete with weighted 88-key digital piano, Bose high quality speakers, recording equipment, as well as musical media, and tablature spanning many musical genres, cultures and time periods. I also am equipped with a spacious floor space for Yoga, Pilates, Weight Lifting, Meditation, and more. Additionally, I am able to travel to any location within the five boroughs for an additional travel fee (TBD based on location).

I look forward to helping you realize your potential! Let's get started...

I would highly recommend Jonathan as a music teacher. Jonathan is absolutely passionate about music, which is evident by his enthusiastic and energetic teaching techniques. He is very patient with my five year old and encourages her to get her very best effort. Jonathan customizes the music and lessons for my daughter’s skill level while at the same time provides challenges to keep the learning process interesting. In a short period of time, my daughter's keyboard playing abilities have dramatically increased. I am very grateful to Jonathan for making learning fun for my daughter, who always looks forward to her lessons!

I have been teaching piano for over 40 years, full-time for the past 13. Besides the actual repertoire, technique and theory are always included in my lessons because they are essential. Sight reading and ear training are also included in some lessons.

I stress accuracy in playing and attention to details! I also teach my students HOW to practice. Slow, accurate practice is the answer. Practicing takes patience!

Please note: Home lessons must be at a location that I can get to easily with public transportation. I do not have a car.

About Emil
I started to study the piano at the age of seven with Hrant Minassian in my hometown of Island Park, New York. During high school I continued my studies with Jack Chaikin , a graduate of the Juilliard School. I attended Hofstra University where I received a B.A. in Music in 1979. At Hofstra, my piano teachers were Blanche Abram and Morton Estrin.

After graduating from Hofstra, I moved into Manhattan and continued my piano studies with Elena Wolkonsky at the Juilliard School. I also took a few lessons from Adam Aleksander, concert pianist, in Miami. So all together, I took lessons for 20 years with six different teachers!

I started teaching piano when I was 18 years old and taught all throughout college. After enjoying a successful career in data processing for 22 years, I decided to go back to teaching piano in 2003.

I thoro
ughly enjoy what I am doing. It's a pleasure to pass on to my students everything that my great teachers taught me.

Emil was the teacher I was looking for. I have tried to learn piano on my own for a while now, but most of the time it became overwhelming. I wasn't sure I was going in the right direction, or if I was learning what I should know in the right order. So far, what Emil had done for me was to take what I've known already and add much more to it. He also has started to correct some bad habits I became accustomed to, which I would have never picked up on my own. He's very knowledgeable, and ties in music theory during the lesson. He's down to earth, throws in some jokes to lighten the mood, and create an enjoyable learning experience.

My approach to teaching involves developing a comprehensive understanding of what one is doing while playing, rather than just learning a couple of songs, or relying solely on your muscle memory, you will be able to explain what you are doing from a theoretical standpoint.

Without getting too heavy with the use of technical terms, I will teach you to see the underlying threads that apply to all styles of music and encourage you to begin making these types of connections yourself.
This is an important skill to develop early so that as you progress you can begin to teach yourself develop your own unique stylistic approaches to music!

After studying at Laguardia High school for the Performing Arts, I attended McGill University in Montreal where I earned my Bachelor's degree in Jazz Piano Performance.

If you study with me you will be able to expand your knowledge of:
-Music Theory
-Harmony
-Piano technique
-Ear Training
-Sight Reading
-Composition
-Improvisation

About Chris
Born and raised in downtown Manhattan, I have studied music for over 15 years now. When I was about 8 years old I started studying classical piano, and to be perfectly honest, it was like pulling teeth to get me to play.
The repetitious nature of learning classical etude after etude wore down upon me at that young age and it was hard for me to focus on it.

Then I learned about the blues scale and picked up the electric guitar...
After starting to play some blues piano and studying with guitar player
Scott Sharrard of the Gregg Allman band, I started to really enjoy playing music.
I was also playing Trumpet in my middle school band (NYC Lab school) although the constant upkeep trumpet requires made it hard to study three instruments at once...

I proceeded to go to Laguardia High school where I decided to zero in on the piano, studying t
heory and piano technique extensively, and deciding to study jazz as well as classical music.
I began to compose my own tunes and study improvisation diligently, and ended up earning my Bachelor's degree from McGill University.
If you choose to study with me, I will guarantee that you will have fun and see music as more than just a sequence of abstract notes... you will learn how certain chord progressions imply certain emotional settings, and how to manipulate those progressions into creating a scene or narrative!

Now I have record my own jazz albums, and play keyboards in a rock band called "Caverns" based here in NYC.

Additionally, I am also fluent in Ableton and record my own electronic music which I am willing to teach, as it is an important skill in the 21st century music scene.
Thank you for your consideration!

Piano lessons are a extra curricular activity
I Want my students to feel they have a voice to speak out if there are any problems that arise. I also want my students to feel that they are in ambiance where they feel comfortable with me to feel they can ask me anything which I think is the most important to feel they aren't on pins and needles and having feel like each week like lesson time feels like pulling teeth. My duty that I want to fulfill is feeling like I am giving them that encouragement and being able to help in any way and to be able to have fun with it when they come to me and have a good time. Which is I guess is unique about myself that I want my students to learn, I want them to achieve, I don't want to hinder them any way but to give that utmost encouragement in learning how to play.

About Maryanne
hi,

My name is Maryanne Fiorentino, I am a rookie in rounding up beginner piano students to the exciting world of learning how to play piano. I have been playing the piano for the past almost 20 years. I studied music and took piano as a secondary instrument at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ I have also passed with flying colors my proficiency at Westminster. I accept children to adults from 5 and up accepting any color or race. My philosophy on how to teach piano I believe for anyone to succeed to play an instrument are to learn the fundamentals to any beginner. It is so important to learn the building blocks because what if you want to further your studies in music or decided to take on a different instrument every student must learn it for a good background in learning music. Another one of my philosophies I believe
in having the courage to speak out to say I don't understand or this is frustrating which is very important for students. I believe that piano lessons are a extra curricular activity especially in teaching a child children are at school 6 hours a day. 5 days a week I want to add variety piano time is dedicated for them to express themselves and enjoy something that is different from their academic studies. Since I told you from the beginning I am a rookie on the verge of experiencing new experiences from each and everyone of my students. I do have experience working as a piano teacher at The Rhapsody academy of music in Elizabeth, NJ
Thank you for reading my profile and I hope I an work with you it has been a pleasure to look at my profile and feel free to choose me if you feel I am the one to teach you piano.

Hi! I'm Nina, and even though I'm only 17, I've been playing the piano for over a decade and have been teaching since 2015. I have most experience with beginner and intermediate students at a preK-12 level. In my lessons, I prioritize the cultivation of creativity, musicianship, and artistry in lessons, so I tend to focus on teaching students the theory behind their pieces in addition to technique. My goal with each student is to help them become the musician they see themselves as in their mind's eye.

Students will receive free summary sheets that show of all the concepts they learned that day, as well as their practice material for the week.

I look forward to helping your child realize their full potential!

About Nina
Hi! I'm Nina, and even though I'm only seventeen, I've been playing the piano for over a decade and have been teaching since 2015. I began playing piano when I was just five years old, when my mother began working overtime as a maid to pay for the lessons. After we moved out to Texas, I began working as a piano teacher and accompanist for vocal competitions -- all before getting out of middle school.

Now that I've settled in Jersey, I've become the accompanist for my high school's choir, and have continued to teach lessons across Hudson County. In addition to being classically trained, I have cultivated my ear and improvisation skills so deeply that I can play any song in the world just by listening to it a few times.

This duality helps me tailor lessons to fit the individual goals of the student. Whether you want to learn the tra
ditional classical method, begin writing your own music, or just want to play your favorite pop tunes, I can help you become the musician you've always wished you could be. I have most experience with beginner and intermediate students at a K-12 level.

In each lesson, you will receive a free summary sheet that details of all the material covered during the lesson and enumerates the practice material for that week. I understand that it can be difficult to afford lessons, so I am very flexible in payment and am willing to work with your budget.

I look forward to helping you become a better musician!
