Although a professional musician, Stephen is a passionate chess player with experience working with beginner to intermediate players. My teaching generally revolves around introducing students to instructive and beautiful games of the past, increasing tactical understanding as well as openings and endgames. Prior to the lesson, I like to review the student's recent games to assess which aspects of their game to work on first.

I am ranked as a top female chess player and have played the game for most of my life. I have played in many national, state, and local tournaments and place well. I have been teaching students of all ages for over 15 years. I make lessons fun and enjoyable but also very understandable. I teach all levels and ages. This is a great game and I believe anyone can benefit from learning the game of chess.

Michael J. has been a chess instructor for a private chess academy since 2008. He has taught in numerous schools in the Milwaukee area working with groups as small as 4 to as large as 30.

Michael has also given private individual lessons to students wishing to advance their chess playing skills. Michael focuses his instruction on basic strategy, traditional maneuvers, thinking ahead, mathematical ties to chess and basic movement.

Beginning students can expect to learn piece movement, game rules, point value, notation, opening theory, pawn structure, en passant, check v. Checkmate v. Stalemate, pawn promotion, castling, and more. Intermediate students can expect to quickly refresh on all the above as well as learn techniques like pins, forks, skewers, discovered check, double threat, advanced openings, end game theory, tournament prep, and so much more.
