Chess is a great hobby for children and adults alike! Learning chess helps develop and improve critical thinking skills, patience, problem solving skills, and memory, as well as being an incredibly fun game to play. I've been playing chess since I was a child, though recently, as an adult, my love for the game truly ignited. I understand how complex of a game chess is, and I will help you gain a strong grasp over the main concepts involved in the game at whatever pace you prefer. I've been teaching chess for over two years now (through private lessons and at the Los Angeles Chess Club) and my lessons are as fun and engaging as they are educational. We will analyze historical chess games, as well as games that you've played, where we'll learn about common openings, tactical motifs, mating patterns, theoretical endgames, and so much more in our lessons. Whether this is your first time seeing a chess board in your whole life or if you've been a casual player for years, I can help you ...

Jessica is obviously an experienced player and teacher. Almost instantaneously, she figured out my level of play and tailored the lesson accordingly. I also liked that she picked a historical game for review based on my style of play. Basically, she can quickly size up a client's ability level and what they want to achieve, so minimal time is wasted. Jessica made the lesson low stress while packing in a lot of information. Highly recommend.

Had my first lesson today and I was impressed. Jessica is highly knowledgeable and patient. We reviewed some my games and a master game. She was patient when I had questions and is definitely a subject matter expert. Logging forward to future lessons!!!

I have been playing chess for well over 30 years. I have taught one on one
children and adults for about 10 years. I have great patience when I teach
students never believing that any concept is too difficult to understand or
master. I have a love for the game that I want to instill in others
I have hundreds of chess books and have gotten to know lots of chessplayers
throughout the years. I do my best to have my students gain and UNDERSTANDING of the game rather than just rote memorization.

I have been coaching chess for many years. What makes chess lessons unique with me is that I make the chess lessons exciting, fun to learn, I point out mistakes/weaknesses in a very kind way, I give good examples of moves/positions relate to real life, I teach people the psychology of playing chess, and I improve people's game through love and repetition. I teach several opening variations as well as middle-game and end-game tactics. But I focus on what people's weaknesses are and I make those weaknesses their greatest strength.

About Mathew

I have been coaching chess for years. I have been passionately studying the game of chess for 13 years. I am currently a 1987 USCF player (Class A player). "Meeting with Danial was great. He was able to assess what I was as a chess player and give me plenty of homework to work on between now and any future lesson. So far, this is exactly what I was looking for. It is someone that can lead and guide me towards being better at chess and give me the correct steps to move forward in my understanding of the game.

In just a single lesson and then 2 hours of immediate application of what he taught, I was able to raise my tactics rating over 100 points! Considering that was the benefit of a single lesson, I cannot imagine how much better I can be after I am able to practice more on what we discussed and as I continue on my chess journey.

Highly recommend his style of teaching and think he would make a fantastic teacher for anyone ages 5 to 85. Definitely a kind, patient, and knowledgeable teacher.

Looking forward to my next lessons!"

"My son USCF rating 1400+ took a trial lesson with Danial. Danial is methodical and systematic in his coaching. He was quick to identify what my son needs to improve in order to get to the next level. The most important thing is that my son enjoyed his one-hour lesson and literally felt that the lesson time flew by as it felt like only 2 minutes long to him. My son gives Danial thumbs up and 5 stars."

6 Tips For Improving Your Chess Game

Back around 2014, I decided I was going to improve at chess. I watched a few videos online about some openings, played a few dozen blitz games online, and then promptly lost interest within a week. Four years later, I decided to pick it up again and in less than a year, I had gone from 1100 to 1900 Elo rating online. Obviously, I changed how I went about my improvement! So here are the steps that I took the second time around that got me to where I am now, and some ways you can improve your ches …

Chess Openings & How To Start Your Game Strong

As a game, chess is traditionally divided into three phases: the opening, the middlegame, and the endgame. While all three are important, today I’m going to help you start out strong in the opening. When I first learned how to play chess, I played openings that really did not help me improve and left me with an awkward start to the game more often than not. Eventually, I adopted some of the openings that I will show you in this post and my rating skyrocketed. Opening Principles The first …
