Want to know how to take great photos? I have been a photographer for nearly fifteen years creating mostly landscapes, macro, wildlife, night and architecture. My photos have been displayed at art shows and sold numerous times at the Mass. College of Art annual auction. Steve is an excellent teacher! I always look forward to my classes. I am a student in high school, and he fully understands my need to balance my school work with piano, and he makes sure that I am able to comfortably commit to both aspects of my life. Steve makes sure that I stay on task and that I am progressing with my piano skills all while making the lessons fun and enjoyable.

She does a great job finding parts where my voice needs improvement and quickly explains things so I understand quickly and can address it.

I have been a vocal student of Kelly for 2 years. I've seen such a drastic improvement. She has helped me to progress far beyond what I thought was possible. I have recently performed in 4 part barbershop quartet. Kelly helped to make that happen! You will love her!

I am a beginner and have been working with Kellie once a week for 2 months.

As a dancer, I am interested in continued exploration of my body as a communication tool. Kellie has guided me to literally OPEN UP and FEEL (not overthink) the rhythm of my human expression.

Pros:
1) educational - music theory & voice box anatomy
2) personalized to go at my own pace
3) class is online - I can practice something vulnerable in the comfort of my own home
4) open learning environment - intuition and bodily exploration is encouraged
5) foundational approach - breath, posture, warm up drills, basic vocabulary are all emphasized

Cons:
1) class is online - nothing beats "in person" feedback
2) we meet once a week - I would like to meet more often to keep the process active (though I can't swing it right now, maybe in the future?)
3) had to download SKYPE as the communication platform

Advice to future students:
1) Pick a song/goal to guide the structure of your class.
2) Set aside personal reflection/practice time in between class each week
3) Make this unique to you. Explore your fears and WHY you are drawn to exploring your voice. This can be an empowering and therapeutic process.

Kellie is a professional creative who brings her full self to class each week. I appreciate her hard work and devotion to me as a student. I work day to day as a barista and have had regulars comment that they notice something different about the way I hold myself - yes Kellie is working some major magic. I can’t put a price tag on this experience. Thank you!

There are so many reasons to learn to draw. Perhaps you are applying for college and want to strengthen your portfolio? Maybe you changing careers and need to strengthen your visual thinking? Or you may just want to learn to draw for fun. Whatever your reason is, I can help. I have been teaching drawing for 20 years and I’ve worked with students of all ages, from young adults to retirees. There seems to be a notion out there that “one must have a talent for art before they can learn to draw. ” One thing I can say for sure is that this absolutely NOT true. With the right knowledge, a strong desire to learn, and a willingness to try, anyone can learn to draw.

I teach students how to draw from a classical studies background, but I believe in nurturing the uniqueness of each student and honoring their learning style. Unlike a classroom setting, a private lesson frees us up to build the lessons specifically around the student's goals and needs.

About Sharon

Do you want to learn to draw/paint or improve your work? Are you applying for college and need portfolio advice? Did you want to get back into doing art after many years without it? Are you a mid-career artist and just need some feedback and a new perspective? Are you changing careers and nee

My lesson with Sharon was a fantastic start. I'm not entirely new to art but I am fairly new to acrylic painting. She tailored our first lesson to start me with a solid foundation. Very excited to set up my next lesson!

Sharon is the best art teacher I’ve ever had. She excels in explaining a concept verbally and then showing visual examples of it. With her positive and encouraging teaching style, Sharon guided me to better myself as a beginning artist. Her teaching technique is uncomplicated and easy to follow. When you take a class with her, not a single session goes by without learning something new. Without reservation, I would recommend taking an art class with Sharon.

Age-Appropriate areas of instruction include:
-Painting Techniques such as Layering, Mixing, Washes, and Glazing.
-Understanding Composition.
-Understanding Color Theory: Opposites or “complementary colors” on the color wheel; Painting with medium tones, so that highlights and shadows can be applied easily. Using multiple colors equals “depth” and “interest.”
-How to Mix Paint: Mixing using the palette knife, brush, on palette, or on painting.

Maggie is an excellent teacher! Super patient and great at breaking things down into parts that are easy to pick up and remember. I'm often a very frustrated learner, but Maggie has been amazing about encouraging at the exact moment it's needed (often before I even fully realise I need it!). Starting to learn violin as an adult was daunting, but something I had wanted to do since I was young, but it hasn't been the impossible task I thought it would be -- and that's definitely due to having engaging instruction that makes learning both challenging and fun!

"Mr. Ohashi is a creative and patient art instructor. His classes are enjoyable and he is intuitive in understanding a student's potential, and how best to communicate technique with consideration to a student's unique style. If I encounter an obstacle, he is able to quickly help me understand and demonstrate with fun examples. He makes art engaging and relaxing, and is knowledgeable about the art community in New York City.

I really love Mr. Ohashi's artistic style and feels fortunate to have attended several of his oil painting shows."
