Hello! I am delighted that you have an interest in learning how to draw, and I am excited to teach you! After receiving my BFA in Drawing through Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, I then went on to study in Leicester England. There, I completed my MA in Art Museum and Gallery Studies with a focus on museum education. Since then, I have been teaching art and languages both online and in-person.

Our lessons can either focus entirely on techniques, or we can incorporate an understanding of art history and a variety of subject matter while still keeping a technical focus on crafting foundational skills (shading techniques, perspective, contour drawings, self-portraits, still life drawing, and more).

At the moment, lessons will all be virtual, but that doesn't mean we need to stay indoors. I encourage venturing outside (safely) if that is of interest to you.

About Pia

Hello! Welcome to my virtual classroom! My name is Pia, and I have been teaching Art since 2009 and English and Italian since 2017. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and take great pride in what I do. I have my MA from University of Leicester in Art Museum and Gallery Studies. I have also receive

Monica is a wonderful teacher. She was delightful during my class and I felt she was truly interested in my own artistic endeavors. She was extremely patient, listened and gave very helpful suggestions to improve my technique of mixing Colors and translating my vision via the blade and brush to the canvas. I would highly recommend taking classes with her on a regular basis for all those who really want to learn about the beauty of oil painting and sketching.
Val
I can't say enough about Monica. She is able to bring out the best in her students and allow them to express their talent . Her bright outlook and encouragement allowed me to grow as an artist. She is like an art mentor that will allow you to flourish.

"Mr. Ohashi is an amazing teacher of art. Having studied at one of the most prestigious art schools in Japan, he achieved a high level of technique and philosophy in the basics of creating art. Moreover, his success at teaching children in the US comes from his natural ability to break down complex ideas into easily understandable ones. A kind man and a joy to learn from, I highly recommend Mr. Ohashi if you want to learn any aspect of painting."

"I am an adult student (33) taking beginner drawing lessons with Jessica. My interest/goal is to draw realistic portraits (maybe in a few years), but with no background, I'd better start from the basics, and I am so glad to have Jessica as my teacher. Her philosophy about how to approach art alone is already teaching me so much - for example, what's the correct mindset, how to really observe a subject, how to practice drawing even when I am not drawing.

We have been working on building up foundational skills and their sequence, which gives me clear understanding on what each small step means in the long term. Based on my interest and what I knew and didn’t know, Jessica would design each lesson with a specific focus in mind, usually around practicing a certain technique. Her homework (I ask for homework since I draw slowly) also reinforces those learnings. I feel more confident with each lesson, and my progress is noticeable.

Also, she is incredibly encouraging, patient, and generous. I never feel judged or self-conscious practicing techniques in front of her (often clumsily) or showing her my new drawings. She always gives thorough feedback and encouraging words. Overall, she gives me confidence on my journey, and that is much needed for an adult student who didn’t have the chance to start when younger. Best teacher ever!"
