About David
I am a 32-year old Massachusetts native and have been playing music since I was 8 years old, starting on the piano with a wonderful teacher in Beverly who also went to Berklee. I picked up the guitar and the bass in high school and got into rock, jazz and blues and haven't looked back. I received a bachelors degree from Berklee in 2012 with a major in Professional Music and minor in Music Education.

Music study is great exercise for your brain. It works both the left and right hemispheres of the brain simultaneously because you are thinking both creatively and logically/mathematically at the same time.

I am happy teaching students at any level, even if you have never picked up an instrument before. I can work with you and get you on the path to being the kind of musician you want to be.

*** Lesson Details ***
I custom tailo
r my lessons to meet a students individual needs. I am a serious teacher, but I am a laid back person. I am easy going, but I will make sure you learn what you need to learn. I can guarantee after 4 or 5 lessons with me, you will have tripled your knowledge of chords, scales, technique, and song repertoire. I am very patient and am happy to work with students of all ages and skill levels.

I encourage mid to upper level students to bring in songs they want to learn (if they are at the right level) and I will transcribe them on the spot and go through them with you step by step.

If you want to learn how to play all your favorite songs, I am the teacher for you. I won't make you play music you aren't really interested in, but I will make recommendations for songs to improve your playing and include music theory so that you understand what you are playing and why you are playing it. The point of playing music is to HAVE FUN, after all.

My aim is to share my musical knowledge, sense of harmony and technique to dedicated students. All melody and chords come from scales, which is essential to understanding music, as well as rhythms. Gregg was my musical instructor during the early 1980ties. What I learned in a few lessons with him was more that I could have expected. I was primarily focused on percussion, of which his vast knowledge was highly dynamic. I learned about poly-rhythms, Indian ti-hies, and complex time signatures. He had available much reference material that he provided me. And over the years his musical insights have not only supplemented my inquiries, but made me a better musician and person. I hope you have a chance to study with Gregg, as you will be introduced to a new and better way of musicianship!

Andy was my guitar instructor for more than year. He is a master in theory and practice and is able to bring you to the highest levels. The breath of learning opportunities he offers in terms of techniques, styles, rhythms, songs etc is huge and allows for training and development in the desired areas at every possible level. And he can back up the lessons by the underlying music theory as needed. In practice, Andy quickly spots where issues lie and provides useful hints to overcome technical problems. In addition he offers useful material which helps when practicing at home.

Josh is an awesome teacher. He is patient and supportive and always comes up with ways to connect me to the concept he’s teaching. I asked to learn drums “the right way” so we spend a ton of time on fundamental exercises that i suspect are boring for him but he never shows it. He is always upbeat and positive and I enjoy our lessons a lot. Could not recommend him more highly.

About Shane
Hi! My name is Shane and I just graduated from Northeastern University having majored in Music Business, with a minor in Recording. I started taking guitar lessons when I was 5 and have done everything I can to surround myself with music since then. My exposure to guitar, theory, and sight reading helped me immensely when I picked up the trumpet in fourth grade band. My passion for music has provided me with opportunities to compete in Jazz Festivals in Monterey, play with orchestras on the stage at Carnegie Hall in NYC, and meet some of the nicest, most talented people the industry has to offer.

After completing my freshman year at Wheaton college in Norton, MA, I felt I needed a change. I transferred to Northeastern, but first, joined a program called Projects Abroad that allowed me to teach music in South Africa to grades K-7. This i
s where I discovered my passion for teaching. This is where I learned the importance of music education. It allowed the music teacher and me to create a safe community where kids could learn and have fun in school, and after school as well.

This inspired me to reach out to Boston schools that were lacking music programs. Upon spending my first year in Boston at Northeastern as a sophomore I started an after school music program at Cathedral High School. CHS didn't have any music classes at the time I started the program. We went from making beats by banging on trash cans, to fundraising for guitars, to implementing a full time music course at the school.

When I'm not teaching or planning after school lessons, I'm usually making my own music, or listening to music. I grew up listening to guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, and Santana. While I always find time for these classic rock legends I currently enjoy a lot of soul/R&B.

Music's versatility can provide comfort, and foster creativity. I hope as a teacher I can help you access all the tools you need to enjoy music to the fullest!

I am new to TakeLessons! I am a professional pianist, vibraphonist, and percussionist. I recently graduated from Berklee, where I spent much of my time composing, arranging, and performing.

I specialize in Jazz, but also frequently help people learn the arts of classical and pop music. Whether or not the student wishes to learn to read, I place a lot of value in scales, intervals, chords, and other core concepts that help us better understand any style of music.
