I strive to treat each student equally no matter how advance the student are. My job as a teacher is to provide students a tool in life. Students will learn the way life works through the art of music. Should the students decide to pursue music or not in the future, I only hope that students will apply what they've learned in music to their everyday problem solving.

About Johnny

Johnny received his Bachelors of Music at the University of Alabama, under the tutelage of Carlton McCreery, and a Masters of Music at The Boston Conservatory with Andrew Mark. Johnny is experienced in teaching cello. His lessons are always passionate, musical, and informative. There are several aspects of his lessons that I'd like to share.

1. Full of Content: He delivers enough details of a new technique with simplification for an easy understanding.
2. Learning Curve: By breaking down and reorganizing the knowledge, he teaches new concepts step by step, from approachable actions to efficient actions.
3. Customization: He helps you find out a suitable solution to grow on the techniques based on your own physical and cognitive characteristics.
4. Experimentation: The correct ways he suggests you do is demonstrated by experimenting with different ways for comparison, which you would not only know what to do but know the reason behind it.

Cello is a beautiful yet complicated instrument. To enjoy it, a great mentorship is necessary and truly valued.

Paul is so great! I'm an adult learning the alto saxophone with almost no prior music experience. He is patient with my many questions, very encouraging, highly skilled (as a musician and instructor), and fun to be around! The majority of our lessons are online and that is working well too.

She was very thorough..plus her style of teaching will definitely benefit me in the long run!!

Jeanmarie helped me to learn the proper way to hold the cello and the bow. She watched carefully to be sure I maintained that throughout the lesson. I am pleased that she is going to be sure I learn to play the cello well to prevent injuries. She also gave me some very basic bowing and finger exercises to practice this first week so I begin to build correct muscle memory before I go on to working with sheet music.

"I've had something like 6 or 8 lessons with Chris so far and he's awesome. If you're not sure what to work on he'll come up with a great "standard" curriculum for you, but if you have particular interests or tastes he tailors your lessons accordingly - which keeps you motivated and makes practicing fun. He's got a huge range and can easily switch between styles if you have diverse interests. He's also cool about letting you decide how much focus you want to put on theory and learning to read music, so you never feel like you're just grinding through anything in order to get to the fun stuff. He's also just a really nice, funny dude so lessons are enjoyable from start to finish. I especially like the games he uses to teach various techniques/sight reading/improving your ear, etc. Really glad I ended up taking lessons with Chris, can't recommend him enough. :-)"

"Nicholas is an inspiring teacher who strives for excellence while focusing on the student's individual situation and needs. Beginning lessons as an adult with some musical experience with other instruments as a child and early teen, he has been able to build quickly on what I already knew, and "undo" improper technique which could have caused physical harm if continued. He is able to encourage and motivate in the difficult and frustrating moments common to all students.

I highly recommend Nicholas for any age or level student."

What is the Suzuki Cello Method?

The Suzuki method, founded in 1945 by violinist Shinichi Suzuki as the Talent Education Movement, is one of the most enduring teaching methods, or pedagogies for young string players. Suzuki’s main goal for his music education system was to give students a “noble spirit,” which would instill respect and cooperation through his method. The method was brought to America in the 1960s by John D. Kendall, and today the Suzuki Association of the Americas instructs new teachers and studen …

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification.
