I have a master's degree in clarinet performance, but an even better degree in teaching music.
Jon N. was born and raised in Mexico City and is proudly an American citizen. He has been performing since the age of three, on several instruments, studying music since fourteen, and still takes lessons to this day. What's not to love?
He is proud to teach at all levels, including many professional musicians with master’s degrees, adult beginners, and of course, kids of all ages between 8 and 75.
They are encouraged to select the music they want to learn, so we have worked on classical music and original compositions, which I also coach, jazz, blues, pop, rock, the Great American Songbook, reggae, seven different kinds of Jewish music, and other ethnic music from all over the globe.
Frequently the younger students will request a tune I've never heard, but I magically transform the MP3 into a handwritten score at the student's l
evel. Example, one of my adult beginners wanted to play the big symphonic poem Scheherazade, and I wrote out the main tunes for easy piano.
Music literacy, technique, theory, repertoire, style, and creative expression. Music is a source of fun and community, and I do my best to impart that on each student. Audition coaching Beginner-friendly
Isaiah earned his Bacehlor's of Arts in Jazz & Contemporary Music Performance in 2019 from Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts. As an active performer, bandleader, composer, and teacher, Isaiah provides a uniquely engaging and holistic musical education for students of all ages and skill levels. His professional resume includes working with Macy's, Music Box Theater, Randy Deadman (Hamilton), Reuben Garza (Noname), Adam Thornburg (Wynton Marsalis), Jacob Victor (Downbeat), and Gustavo Cortinas (Downbeat). Over the years, Isaiah has earned numerous awards at jazz festivals across the country as an outstanding soloist. Isaiah grew up in a family of teachers and musicians. His educational philosophy was shaped around th
e dinner table, and is equally as inclusive. Making music fun, encouraging self reliance and discipline, promoting musical literacy, and nurturing students' creativity are at the heart of his lessons. Isaiah unapolegetically loves everything from Bach to Bjork. One of his greatest strengths and passions is connecting people with music that makes them smile. He has an extensive teaching resume that includes Tom Garling's Tritone Music School in Arlington Heights, Top Note Music Academy in Skokie, Band for Today in Chicago, Flatts and Sharpe Music Academy, and the blue ribbon St. Joan of Arc Elementary in Evanston, IL, among others.
His skillset is as broad as it is deep. As a pianist, saxophonist, flutist, vocalist, and composer, he has quickly become one of the most highly sought after musicians in the Midwest. In addition to scoring the feature film, Promise of the Butterfly, currently making its rounds at film festivals, his performance experience includes jazz, classical, Latin, rock, pop, R&B, hip hop, funk, musical theater, South Indian fusion, and more. His bands have appeared at a number of high-profile venues around Chicago including House of Blues, The Promontory, Cubby Bear and numerous residencies.
I can already sense that my boys are going to have a great learning experience with Isaiah. He caught on to each child’s strengths and areas of growth in the content as well as behavioral differences. He adjusted to each one fluidly and took the time to debrief after the lesson. I’m looking forward to continuing this relationship.

Really brilliant teacher, has taught me saxophone from scratch. Focuses on a full range of skills in every lesson, from sound, technical exercises, jazz theory, improvisation and jazz repertoire. Have loved every lesson, and feel like I've improved significantly. Definitely recommend him to anyone wanting to learn saxophone, or how to be a jazz musician.
I have been teaching for the past 6 years, and love working with all different students. My former students have been selected to be in the Colorado All-State Honor Band and have been accepted to their top choice colleges for music performance. In 2016, I attended the Aspen Summer Music Festival, where I learned a great deal about clarinet and teaching. My specialty is pinpointing bad habits and working towards effortless, high-quality sound and technique.
I am an avid clarinetist, energetic performer and enthusiastic teacher. My dream career is to be a soloist like Martin Frost, to play in an orchestra, or compose and perform my music. My passion for teaching is similar to my passion for performing, and I have experience teaching privately since 2013 and in front of large groups, as a staff member for a high school marching band. My teaching style is all about fundamentals as I try and break down the things you need to know about playing into easy to understand fundamentals that can be applied to all future playing.
I focus on the fundamentals and on having fun playing the clarinet. In the first lessons we will concentrate on developing good embouchure and hand position so you can create a beautiful sound. We will work on a variety of music, depending on your interests. I can help you master your parts for school bands and ensembles. I welcome students at all levels, and make sure that all of my students recognize the progress they make at each lesson. I look forward to working with you!
Hi, my name is Alessandro. I am a clarinet teacher and musician in the Chicago area. I have a Masters Degree in Music Performance from DePaul University School of Music and I have been teaching lessons since 2015. I can teach students at all levels of ability. As a freelance musician I have performed with the Chicago Clarinet Ensemble, The Chicago Composers Forum, Wheaton Municpal Band and other ensembles. I am also called upon to perform original works by young composers t composer forums.
I think there are two important parts of taking clarinet lessons: learning the fundamentals, and having lots of fun. I focus on basics like embouchure, air, and tone to help you develop good technique. I will also work with you to select music that you like and that you will be excited to play. I look forward to meeting you and working wit
A very good and thorough instructor. Very good for beginners to get them started correctly.

Haven't played in years, reviewing the basics w/Alessandro are fun, as well as knowledgeable on technique and tone!
From first lesson through advanced high school students, I focus on quality of tone production and musicality.
My primary teaching philosophy revolves around the ideas of creativity and cooperative problem solving. I believe that all musicians should be actively training their ears as well as their abilities on their instrument. I focus on all elements of basic musicianship while incorporating improvisation and composition in an inspiring way.
I grew up playing jazz, soul, R&B, folk, reggae, ska, funk, and classical music. I feel very comfortable working within all of these genres in both performance and educational atmospheres.
Regardless of age, learning a new instrument or art form can be daunting, so I like to include some sort of entertaining activities to keep tension low and inspiration high.
I am a band director who has played clarinet professionally for the last 20 years. I like to balance my lessons with a variety of excercises and repertoire that are catered to each student's interests, strengths and weaknesses.
I have both a Bachelors and Masters degree in music education in addition to extensive professional clarinet performance experience and enjoy teaching the clarinet. I am a Grammy nominated Music Educator and encourage students to explore classical and popular styles in lessons.
If there is a special time request that is not currently available please reach out. I've taught very beginners to helping adults land successful military band auditions. Am a certified music Educator with a K-12 endorsement in music in IL.
Corey was a great instructor for my 4th grader. We wanted him to keep up with his clarinet lessons over Summer break. My son gets very easily frustrated when he struggles and Corey handled it all very well, always giving a new suggestion on what he could do to improve. In just 5 short lessons, Corey helped my son with his embouchure, finger placement, tounging and my son was finally able to play his B and C notes. That had really been holding him back from playing lots of music. Highly recommended!

Mr. Ames has been one of my favorite teachers during my time at LA. He is always willing to listen and help his students if they go to him. He is passionate about teaching, his main goal is to help his students succeed in whatever way he can. He always tries to make a fun and worthwhile experience everyone should appreciate the great teacher that he is.

Mr. Ames is an amazing teacher! He helped me land a spot in the all district band my freshman year in high school and constantly pushed me to strive and be my best. I highly recommend him for anyone that is looking to have fun and be a better clarinet player.
I want to make sure that you learn not only how to play the clarinet, but that you also have a firm grasp on everything else that goes into great musicianship! If you'd like, I can bring a strong emphasis on music theory, so that you can better understand and appreciate the music you are learning. On top of theory, I would love to open up the opportunity for you to compose your own pieces. I also want you to have a good understanding of how your instrument actually is working, physically speaking — my goal is to make you a well rounded musician!
I prefer to have you learn real repertoire versus working from a methods book, because I want you to be excited about the music you are learning. I will let you explore the rep that you want, from medieval to contemporary, as well as non-western. Contemporary classical music is my specialty, and I'd be more than happy to dive into this with you!
Hello! My name's Kevin, and I'm a composer/musician based in Brooklyn. I went to the College of William and Mary where I studied both music and physics. Following that, I received a master's degree focusing in music composition from the University of Chicago.
I would love to help you have a stronger understanding of your instrument and music in general! I started playing clarinet in the 8th grade, and continued playing all through high school, undergrad, and grad school. Clarinet is my primary instrument, but before clarinet I began saxophone, and before saxophone, I began piano. Music has been a central part of my life for such a long time, and I can't imagine life without it!
My primary career pursuit is music composition, so I would love to dive into some music theory with each piece that you learn. I feel that understanding the mu
sic itself builds a stronger appreciation for the act of playing music. I have written a lot of pieces for myself on clarinet, and would be thrilled to help you on your own compositions if that is something your interested in. Contemporary classical music is my passion, but I want to help you explore the repertoire that fascinates you.
I have over 10 years of teaching experience in the US and abroad. All ages and levels are welcome. I adapt lessons to each student's ability. You will learn how to produce good sound and interpretate music pieces, also will build a strong foundation of notes reading, music theory, ear training, sight reading, technique, and more. Let's get started!
I have extensive experience playing as part of orchestras and ensembles and also pursued music pedagogy, and during my many years of teaching instrumental music, I was able to further develop my own skill as a performance musician. Furthermore, I had the privilege to lead two different orchestras as a conductor, I composed music for a theatrical production, and also recorded several albums including klezmer music, smooth jazz, musical poetry, and music for healing and meditation.
"Dimitry is an excellent clarinetist and professional colleague
I am a professional oboist with a great deal of experience. I have played in an orchestra
with Dimitry for 5 years. I find his principal clarinet playing to be very fine. He is also a very good colleague. While my relation to him is not teacher-student, I judge from his warm personality that he makes an excellent teacher."
"Carter has been instrumental in my son's growth and development as a musician and clarinetist. He has worked with my son over six years and has displayed
patience, exceptional teaching ability and coaching, and clear talent as a musician. Due to Carter's support and teaching over the years, my son has realized tremendous success. He has been First Chair in his Wind Ensemble group at school, a member of the Pacific Symphony Youth Wind Ensemble, and a member of the California All-State Music Ensemble. I strongly believe that, without Carter, these accomplishments would have not been possible!"
"I LOVE Corinne. She's helped me so much with learning clarinet. She's very clear and easy to learn from plus she's super funny and fun to be around. She's
helped my practice techniques a ton! 10/10 teacher."
"Olivia is a great instructor with a fun personality! Her lessons are great!"
"I know Joseph's work as a wonderful clarinetist and chamber musician having worked with him closely at the University of Maryland as one of his professors
. Joseph's command of the instrument and his artistry are absolutely outstanding and his personality, demeanor and diligence are such that I am confident he would be an excellent instructor. I recommend him most highly with no reservations!"
"This was my first lesson with Sara and I already learned things I never heard about before. I am an adult student that has not picked up a clarinet in yea
rs!!! If I had Sara for a teacher I would of did this years ago:)) I immediately felt connected to her and she is very encouraging. Looking forward to my next lesson. Thank you:-)"
"Very patient with our 9-year-old"
"Artyom is very passionate teacher, he makes sure his students succeed and takes the best out from them. He is responsible and very knowledgeable in all in
struments he teaches. He teaches to my three children Clarinet, Piano and Saxophone."
"My ten year old says it was a great first lesson. “I learned how to play five notes. Tyra was nice and funny.”"
