This is not a machine embroidery class. Get ready to move beyond the basic cross stitch (by hand). Let me coach you on specialty stitches such as satin, queen, eyelets, Rhodes, French knots and more. Let me repeat, this will not be a machine embroidery class, every stitch will be made by hand! I've been cross stitching since 1983 and teaching it for over 10 years. Within the first few lessons, you'll learn how to organize your material for easier sewing, master basic stitches, and as time goes on you'll be able to tackle complicated stitches and designs. I specialize in counted cross stitch, but also have experience with redwork, drawnwork, Bargello, pulled thread, hardanger, and canvaswork. Typically, I use The Cross Stitcher's Bible by Jane Greenoff but can recommend other helpful resources. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you! Group pricing available, please contact customer service for more details on how to set up group lessons.

HAND EMBROIDERY ONLY - I do not teach machine embroidery. Do you have trouble getting your French knots to come out perfect? Do you want to know what a French knot is? Do you want to jazz up your clothing or home decorating with some embellishments? Are you looking for a project to work on during your commute? Do you have a vintage piece you would like to repair or restore? Have you seen cool and inspiring projects on Pinterest? I can help you make anything you set your mind to. I am familiar with almost every type of embroidery and the tools and materials to will help you create the effect you desire. Please note, I have very little experience with computerized embroidery machines and do not provide lessons in this area of expertise. My approach to teaching embroidery is to develop the skills you may want or need to express your own creativity. I teach pure technique. Students are expected to provide all tools and materials but I will help you find what you need for your project. Recommended duration for in-person lessons is 90 minutes. A surcharge may be added for travel outside of areas accessible by one MTA fare or expected travel time exceeding 90 minutes.
