Learn your favorite songs and riffs! Coordination, singing and playing, music reading, improvisation. The foundation of music lessons is developing good ears and good time feel (groove). These are skills that all the best musicians have. That, along with some study of piano basics will cover about half of our lesson time. The other half should be devoted to the kind of music that inspired you to look me up. My hope is that you will become a well rounded musician and pianist, and that we'll both discover new music :-)

I also enjoy preparing for jam sessions, auditions, and competing for placement in school ensembles and scholarships.

My mission is to provide a positive musical experience for all students. For some this includes rigorous preparation for an audition of some kind, for others it may be an introduction to music fundamentals to foster better listening skills and greater artistic appreciation. All students will be challenged to improve their listening, timing, and technique. All students will learn to play songs that they love.

Recommendations for best results: make a three-month commitment to weekly lessons, and work up to 30 minutes of daily practice. This formula guarantees results. Bring your instrument, music books, and a binder with sheet protectors ☺

*Scheduling policy: to avoid being charged for a lesson - One week notice is required to cancel, skip, or "roll over" a lesson. 24 hours notice to reschedule (based on availability).

To continue weekly lessons, students must maintain at least 90% attendance or the time slot may be forfeited.

Good Luck!

Jordan was born and raised in the El Centro, California where he began playing the alto sax in the elementary band program. At the age of 12, he began his study of guitar and drums, performing in several rock and ska bands around his home town and San Diego. At age 14, is where he found his love for brass instruments when he took up the trombone. While in high school he became a featured soloist with the Imperial Valley College Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of the legendary trumpeter Jimmy Cannon. It was this that lead Jordan to accept the Constance Weldon Music Scholarship to attend the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL.

While performing in South Florida Jordan appeared with major acts including 10,000 Maniacs, and appeared on the Spanish television show "Calle Ocho." He also gained invaluable experience teaching in Miami public schools. His first teaching assignment was at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School where he directed 3 beginning bands, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and their highly decorated Jazz Band. Later Jordan moved into the elementary setting, teaching vocal and instrumental music for grades K-5 at Cypress Elementary.

In 2007, Jordan returned to California to pursue a music career in San Diego. He can be seen performing all over San Diego, Orange, and LA Counties in styles ranging from rock, jazz, funk, blues, hip-hop, Latin, and more. He performs primarily on trombone, piano, and guitar, but is known to pick up percussion, harmonica, and other wind instruments as well. Jordan, along with the rest of the aggressively funky cover band SuperMagnetic, were the grand prize winner of the 2010 Viejas Ultimate Music Challenge 4. In 2011, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess were nominated for a San Diego Music Award in the category of "Best Blues Artist" after the release of their first album "From The Hip." They released their second album "Turbulence" last December, and are heard regularly on local San Diego radio. This album has also been nominated for Best Pop album for the 2013 San Diego Music Awards. In 2013, Jordan completed his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University.

On stage, Jordan is a talented and versatile performer. He is known for his trombone sound and improvisational ability, as well as his positive relationship with his fellow musicians. In lessons, Jordan is energetic and creative.

After assessing a student's abilities and needs, I tailor their instruction according to what best fits their individual personalities and capabilities. I stress proper technique, beauty of tone, rhythmic accuracy, and expressive musicality. Understanding of music theory is intertwined with the musical experience. Playing in ensemble is encouraged; I play lots of duets with my students.
The atmosphere presented to my students is always casual and friendly. I take care to make them feel relaxed and uninhibited. I relate to them as whole persons, not just music students. I strongly emphasize their enjoyment of the music and my expression of pleasure in their successes. I consider it a privilege to nurture others in the experience of music!

About Diane
I have been playing the flute since fifth grade, a long time! I have taught flute privately for about twenty years.

Since 2007, I have been a flute coach every summer at San Diego's Band at the Beach music camp for junior high and high school students.
I have taught students from ages 5 to 80 and have good rapport with every age.

I have been taking flute lessons from Ms. Wilson for close to 4 months now and its been a great experience so far. I had very little idea of music and had no such formal training but wanted to learn flute. She is supportive from day 1 and started to teach me the basics of music and flute. She is very calm, listens to my problems when I don't get some things easily and tries to suggest solutions. She has been very flexible in class timings and adjusts her schedule to accommodate me when I can't make it to the class on some days. I wish I get to learn a lot from her and become a good flutist.

Learn how to play the piano and how to read music.

About Trevor
Every musician was first and foremost a fan of music. My love of
music began when my mother took me to a performance of Beethoven's
fifth symphony when, coincidentally, I was five. From that point, I
started fervently listening to my mother's records (those are the
huge, black monstrosities that people in the pre-historic used in
place of iPods), followed closely by my father's CD collection.
After a while, this ravenous desire of to know and feel music moved
me to play an instrument. After a couple of false starts with the
drums and violin, I found my true musical calling: the guitar.

On January 25th 1995, on a whim, I began playing the
guitar, and I have yet to put it down. Along the way I've picked up
a number of friends for my guitar, including the bass, the lute, the
sitar and, once again, the drums. After on
ly a few years of
practice, I started playing professionally, in bands and solo guitar.
Live playing experience, I believe, is the most important experience
that any musician can have, in that, the most important part of music
is how it sounds, and playing in front of people is the quickest way
to learn how to play effectively. And this is what I teach; how to
be a musician, not just a technician.

*** Lesson Details ***
A student can expect a curriculum tailor-made to their needs and personality. Every person learns differently and this is an important distinction in my teaching style. Some students need a strong hand to keep them working, others need to find many different ways to the same conclusion to keep them focused, while still others need a laid-back friend in order to accept knowledge.

I stress rhythmic literacy, for, as my jazz teacher always said, "rhythm is king." If composition is important to you, then we'll focus on music theory, but if you're just wanting to learn how to play some fun rock tunes with your friends on the weekends, we can do that as well. As I stated before, we'll get you playing in front of people in no time.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide an amplifier, a loner guitar (if needed), staff and/or tablature paper, metronome, pens and paper for the lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Music theory and composition, guitar, bass, lute, beginner to intermediate piano
Classical, shred, blues, and rock guitar; renaissance lute; blues, rock and slap bass; composition of many styles; world music.

About Fred
I graduated from Oxford University and Master of Music Degree from Tehran university .Also I have had many years experience in piano teaching at Arasbaran Art Institute and had the privilege to gain experience under many famous supervision of Maestro . I teach piano and keyboard. I have fifteen years experience teaching to all kinds of learning styles.
My Teaching Philosophy
My approach to teaching music is to have the student work at their own pace or my location. I incorporate theory, in both my piano training and keyboard. I keep a strong eye and ear on technique, and develop good practice and performance habits.

For my singing students I use age appropriate songs, and often we choose music together, based on interest and the students needs and experience. Students tape their lessons, and use the tape to practice vocal exercises
and songs.

For my piano students I use several books, depending on the age of the student, and their background. I always include a Theory Book, Lesson Book, and Performance Book. I begin by getting the student familiar with the piano, and the finger number positions, and gradually teach reading the music, while building skill with fingering techniques.

She is skilled in music theory and technique and really focuses on ensuring her students have the foundational skills necessary to build on as they progress. Sally has truly been the most wonderful instructor! I started taking lessons a few months ago with her. I played piano when I was younger but I wanted to get back into playing before my twins arrive. I am almost 8 months pregnant at this point and Sally has been kind, compassionate and so helpful in helping me remember the piano skills I didn't know I had in me and haven't used in many years. She challenged me, taught me things I never learned when I was younger and helped me improve across every lesson. Sally teaches my two kids that live with autism. They're moderate/severe, so we really didn't expect how the lessons would go due their many challenges. Sally quickly built a relationship with trust with them by her gentle approach and confidence in their abilities to learn. On her second day my son was hamming the song and was able to identify one note she requested on his own! Although Sally teaches all kinds of kids is our experience that she's a wonderful therapist as she is so educated about neurological symptoms such as autism. She has the right approach and my kids love her! They hug her and they follow her directions. She senses and understands also their sensory issues and gives them breaks thus allowing them to self regulate without tears of meltdowns. She's the best teacher we ever!

It has been about 20 years since I last took piano lessons, but recently decided that it was something I wanted to get back into and Josh has been awesome! He’s been very accommodating and we’ve found a good combination of working on lesson-like material, tempo, and on pieces that I’ve wanted to learn how to play. He is very attentive and takes notes throughout the lesson so that we make sure that we always start back up at the same place each time. I’ve been very happy working with Josh over the past few months and would highly recommend him to anyone looking to play the piano again or for the first time!

I am a Doctor of Music with two graduate degrees in music. I have been teaching piano, voice, and music for nearly 10 years. If you are looking for a highly educated teacher who is also understanding and fun, then look no further.

My main goal in piano lessons is to educate my students on the essential elements of piano while we search together for their passion on the instrument. Basic piano skills, geography, and music theory knowledge are all essential to aiding a growing student's musicality. I will never neglect a student's music theory and technique in lessons.

However, some students are more inclined to perform modern works. I am well versed in all piano repertoire from Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven to Ray Charles, Elton John, and Stevie Wonder. I have trained students to perform on piano and sing at the same time and I have also trained students to play complex etudes at the level of Chopin Op. 10 and higher.

Piano holds a special place in my heart. I have studied music

I have conducted many music ensembles in the United States including: the PLNU concert band (2007-2010), the PLNU chamber orchestra (2008-2010), San Diego Honor Band (2008), Point Loma Opera Theatre (2009), CSUN Symphony Orchestra (2011-2013), CSUN Opera (2011-2013), CSUN Youth Philharmonic and Youth Symphony
(2011-2013), UofSC Symphony Orchestra (2014-2017), UofSC Campus Orchestra (2014-2017), and the Columbia Community Orchestra (2016-2017).

I am a doctor of music, but I am also a lover of music. I have performed and studied piano for over 20 years. My goal with students is to educate them in theory and technique while also finding the piano music that most interests them. I am highly experienced teaching piano to children and adults.
