Creativity to Last a Lifetime

Tiffini L.

By Tiffany L.-Escondido Piano Teacher

My first lesson with Adam, one of my piano students, began when he was in seventh grade. He was quiet in nature and enjoyed tinkering with the piano, but had never taken lessons. We began with the basics; a foundation in technique, theory, and easy repertoire. Adam had an unusual interest in the theory behind music. After some piano lessons, we worked on a more practical, ‘hands on’ approach to music theory, by working on a very basic chord progression for the purpose of learning theme and variations. Adam became very excited about the possibility of being able to compose his own songs, as well as playing a variety of themes and variations, eventually branching out using other compositional techniques.

One evening, Adam’s mother, Casey, contacted me and told me that she and Adam had entered a jingle writing contest. He had composed the music, she had written the lyrics, and they had won 25,000 dollars in cash to go into Adam’s college fund!

Adam has since gone on to pursue his master’s degree in music in the Film Scoring program at NYU Steinhardt. From humble beginnings, Adam has found his passion for music and continues to pursue higher education, as well as a career in music that will allow him to creatively express himself and share his gifts with others.

As a music teacher in Escondido, I feel the gift of musical creativity is very important for both young people and adults. Teaching piano lessons in Escondido gives me immense satisfaction! There is nothing more rewarding than helping my students learn, grow, and succeed in reaching their musical goals!
