With the knitting lessons, we'll start out learning how to prepare your piece, read basic patterns, learn how to cast on and off. We'll go through the basic stitches (knit and purl), and how to use them to make a scarf.

About Brianna
Hi, I'm Bri! I'm a graduate of North Central College with a BA in Music (Emphasis in Composition and Percussion) and a minor in History. I absolutely love music, every single aspect of it. I love to make music a part of everybody's lives who want and need it. I want to help you with your musical needs. I have been playing percussion for 19 years, singing for 25, and playing piano for 20 years. I was a member of a recording and performing Chicago band, Oblio and Arrow, where I provided backing vocals and helped with the song arrangements. I am currently a member of Trip City Lights, an LA local funk/soul band, where I provide lead and backing vocals. I also record vocals for different artists hooks, jingles, choruses, and songs (covers and originals). I have also composed/arranged various pieces for ensembles, bands, vocal groups, choirs,
plays, musicals, commercials, etc. I've worked with folks locally in LA, and all over the world. I love what I do!

History has always fascinated me. The way our world has developed and changed and continues to evolve is amazing. Everything can be tied back to the past, and I feel it's important to take a look back, put yourself in that time, and really study how things were to help understand why things are the way they are now.

Crocheting and knitting are a couple of good habits/hobbies I picked up about 10 years ago. I sell scarves online and I'm always working on some sort of project. I will have you knitting and pearling with the best of them!

Music, history, crochet, and knitting....I'm your girl!

Have a specific project in mind, or just want to pick up a new skill? Beginner level students will learn basic stitches and yarn properties. Starting projects will be selected from a variety scarves, hats, and small toys (referred to as amigurumi). More advanced students can choose to learn socks, gloves and to modify patterns, and eventually create their own. Knitting needles and yarn can be provided for a small extra fee, or a materials list will be provided for students to purchase their own supplies.

About Molly
Raised in New York city, I attended Stuyvesant High School, the jewel in the crown of the NYC public school system. Traditional academic achievement was not enough for me however, and I went on to study fashion design, honing my artistic skills at Drexel University. Call me a renaissance woman or a Jill-of-All-Trades, I've been employed in fashion houses, graphic design firms and visual effects shops. I've also made my way freelancing as a photographer, web designer, and writer. In addition to this variety of creative skills, I have a Bachelors in Business Administration, and training in Quickbooks. I recently scored a perfect 170 on the GRE verbal, and obtained admission into several competitive doctoral programs in Clinical Psychology.

I realize it is not enough to merely have skills or intelligence in order to be a tutor. One must
be able to convey them to the student in a way that is effective and (hopefully) enjoyable. From the helping students prepare a portfolio for undergraduate admission, to teaching the basics of essay writing, I have a warm attentive attitude that sets students of all ages at ease. My teaching style is focused on the learning style of the person I am working with, tailoring the exercises to help achieve specific goals.

Molly was understanding in scheduling conflicts and worked with me so we could get our lessons done. She made sure that I understood each thing that we went over and gave me homework that helped me get some practice in that I needed. I made a blanket for my sister who just had a baby and it is a wonderful keepsake!

Thanks Molly!

Stella is a wonderful teacher. What I had been unable to teach myself, she taught me in no time. Patient, thorough, funny, interactive and did I say patient? And in seconds, she knew my machine better than I. And who knows, I may decide to learn a new craft just so I can continue working with her.

What would you like to learn? Basic stitching or specific techniques? Learn how to use Ravelry. Get help with a current project. Are you left-handed? Bonus! I teach righty or lefty as needed.

Make a list of “Things I Want to Work On” and we can put together a great lesson plan and schedule. Here are some skills and techniques to think about to get your list started. Ask me about anything else, if you don’t see it here:

Stitches and Techniques –
• Basic or advanced stitches
• Lace and openwork increases and decreases
• How to read charts
• Knitting in the round
• Tubular cast on
• Beading to embellish projects

Math Made Easy -
• Reading the Yarn Ball Band for yarn weights and hook sizes
• Gauge and substituting yarn
• Tackle your niggly math questions

About Ellen
Whether you want to begin knitting or crocheting, or already love to, there’s always something new to learn. I love all aspects of knitting and crochet - color, texture, and creation. And I love sharing all this with my students. I personally enjoy the math of it, and can help make it easy if math is not your “thing”.

Would you like to learn basic skills, hone current ones , or enhance your experience with new techniques? If you're in the middle of a project and need help, or have specifice technique(s) you'd like to work on, consider booking a 15 minute class, or a series of them.

Choose from these subjects, or tell me what you’d like to work on:

• Reading the Yarn Ball Band - Why the information on it is helpful and important
• How to use Ravelry - A knitting community full of useful information
• Fiber Math…Yes you can
- How to understand gauge and yarn weights/quantities.
• How to Read and Translate Charts
• Help with a Current Project – Understanding a pattern, technique, or correcting a mistake
• Knitting Lace and Openwork Basics – How to do increases and decreases
• Bead Crochet – Crochet necklaces and bracelets, or embellish knitting or crochet projects with beads.
• Hyperbolic Crochet – For those that love math or want to learn how to crochet curves from a flat surface (think of coral, or the edge of a curly lettuce leaf like kale)
• Your wish list of knitting or crochet skills…

I have been teaching since 2012 and am available to teach lessons online and in NYC. I learned teaching skills from some of the most loved and respected teachers in well-known stores, teaching venues, and events. I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals, and have fun while we work together. As an added bonus, I teach both right and left handed as needed. Do you need a time, place, or topic not listed here? Just ask. We can probably work something out.

Enrich your fiber crafting experience. What would you like to learn? Contact me and let’s get started.

I can't say enough great things about Melissa. I had done some very basic knitting previously, and she taught me so many new tips and tricks in a very short amount of time. She's friendly, patient, and has a true passion for the art of knitting! It's inspiring to hear about the fun projects she's working on (usually as sweet gifts for other people). If you take a class from this super smart gal, you won't regret it!

Melissa was a great instructor for knitting. She walks you through each step and makes sure you completely understand the process. She walks you through casting a stitch, different stitches needed for each project, and how to go back and correct a dropped stitch. Her lessons are thorough and great for building the foundation needed for knitting well. She makes it simple enough for a beginner to understand and does so with humor and charm. I highly recommend Melissa!

I might be young but I am a very experienced knitter. I am very patient and love to have fun, which is why I encourage students to work on projects that excite them. I am also very detail-oriented and great at catching mistakes!

About Allegra
Hey! My name is Allegra and I am looking for students who would like to learn how to knit. When I was 5, my grandmother (who is an amazing knitter) helped me make my first scarf. Though the scarf was far from perfect, I distinctly remember how accomplished I felt. Now I would love to share that feeling with others just as my grandmother did for me. Since my first scarf, I have gone onto more advanced projects such as cowls, blankets, beanies, and sweaters. I would love to teach students of any age and help them work through any beginner project of their choosing. I am also willing to help those who know how to knit follow more advanced patterns and learn new knitting techniques. Thanks for reading! :)

I learned to knit from my mother who started when she was 5 years old. The thing that took me the longest to learn and seems to take everyone the longest to learn is casting on. As soon as you get it you will master the basics. I'll teach you how to read patterns, how to move from a basic scarf to a sweater, you will master cable knits, multiple colors and if you want to make stuffed animals I can help you with that too. With time and hard work you will be able to knit anything you want to knit.

About Rebecca
I'm an artist and teacher. My main mediums are oil paint, cut paper, and fiber arts. When I graduated from Pratt in 2003 I received my BFA in Illustration and Art Education. After that I went on to grad school for elementary education. The perfect combination for helping people find themselves as artists while working on my own art.

After teaching in urban and suburban schools in CT, NY and Washington DC I moved to Germany where I taught English as a Native Speaker for three years. That's where I became fluent in German, learned a lot about myself, and worked on my cut paper bird series.

Over the years my students have grown tremendously. They have become creative thinkers and individuals. It brings me great pleasure to see them as they reach their goals and exceed expectations. Especially when it comes to students who I have helped t
o discover what type of learner they are so that they could finally reach their full potential. Once a person learns how to learn there is no stopping them.

I intend to continue working hard to help people reach their full potential. When you become my student you will have my full attention. I will give you the tools to reach your goals whether it's painting something you are proud of, having a conversation in German, or knitting a sweater.
