Hi, prospective student. I'm Matt. I've been playing the drums for 19 years and teaching for over 15. My drumming career started at the age of 11, when I first began performing in front of audiences in a folk band. Shortly after, I branched out to as many genres as possible: country, pop, punk, rock, brass band, metal, blues, progressive, and drumming for musicals in theaters. By the age of 14, I had attained one of the highest drumming qualifications available in the UK, a Grade 8 in Drums, and went on to further that two years later with a Performance Certificate. I was selected as the percussion leader in my high school's 'Elite Band' also at 14, performing in prestigious theaters both in the UK and abroad. I began teaching at the age of 14. My teaching philosophy has always been to tailor lessons to a student's goals in a friendly, supportive, yet challenging way. I bring an incredibly diverse and deep knowledge of drumming from my 18 years of performing in a great variety of genres. For the beginner, you may simply want to try the drums out. That's great! I'm here to help you fall in love with the drums. For students who have some experience, we will work on whatever is challenging you. Perhaps you want to work on poly-rhythms, double bass drum technique, hand technique, rudiments, fills, or maybe you want to learn some songs. Perhaps you want to make drumming your career and get into a music program at college. Whatever your goals are, I'm here to guide you. Please ensure you have an electronic/acoustic drum kit at your house (and understanding neighbors!). I have taught students in both the school and private setting, child to adult, beginner to advanced. I hope to speak with you soon and have the pleasure of teaching you.
