Experience
Sergeant
Jul, 1998 - Apr, 2011Utah Army National Guard
I was a Carpenter/Masonry specialist for the Army and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2002. I then switched to be a Computer Systems/Radio Systems specialist in 2006. I was in the Guard for 12 years and am proud of my service.
Trainer/Outreach Specialist
Aug, 2011 - Apr, 2014CaptionCall
I assisted in installation and training of Captioning telephones for people who suffer from a hearing loss. I supervised the states of Washington, Oregon, and Alaska. I learned a lot about one on one teaching, especially with individuals who have special circumstances and learned really well how to meet them on their level and provide the instruction that would help them the most.
Technical Support Technician level 3
Dec, 2006 - Aug, 2011Sorenson Communications
I worked as telephone technical support for Captioning services as well as Video Relay Videophones and Videophone services. I provided home network and computer setup instructions to Deaf and hard of hearing individuals through interpreters over the phone. This experience taught me a lot about the most effective ways of phrasing things that are difficult to understand for someone who is unfamiliar with a particular process or product. It helped me to see how to find new ways of describing things that I am extremely familiar for people who have never even heard of what I am telling them. It improved my patience and understanding of the learning process.
