    About Xander G.

Xander G. is a New York City based composer of musical theater, pop and country music. Xander has been teaching songwriting, music production, piano, and voice in NYC for the past few years. In addition, he has musically directed shows at the Calhoun School, Bronx Center for Science and Mathematics, Harlem Village Academy, and Island Lake Camp. Xander also teaches a songwriting after-school program at Corlears School and has also co-taught a lyric-writing course at the Calhoun School for the past three years. His musical, All You Can Eat, in which he wrote both the music and lyrics, was first performed at the Mary Lea Johnson Performing Arts Center in 2007. Selections from the musical were also performed in the New York Musical Theater Festival (NYMF), and at a concert at the Laurie Beechman Theater that featured F. Michael Haynie (Wicked) and Remy Zaken (Spring Awakening). Xander's work has also been performed at NYU. Xander recieved his B.M. in Music Theory and Composition from New York University where he worked with colleagues and faculty to adapt Italo Calvino’s Il Barone Rampante into a play with music. The project was then performed at Villa La Pietra in Florence, Italy. Xander’s teachers include Herschel Garfein, Jason Robert Brown, Battista Lena , Marjorie Duffield, Joel Derfner, Virginia Hart Pike, Cynthia Wuco and Victor Lin. A major influence in Xander’s music will always be Big Al Foster - his first piano teacher and an incredible human being! *** Lesson Details *** I teach lessons in songwriting, music production, piano and voice. Lessons are catered to the individual student. For example, I have students that want to do songwriting and then record their music, and I also have students that just want to study singing or piano. What sets me apart from other teachers is that I have the ability to teach in a fully-equipped professional recording studio. It allows singers and pianists to really hear the progress they've made through the recordings they do, while also allowing songwriters to record their music and sharpen their arranging skills. *** Studio Equipment *** - Sound-proofed and deadened vocal booth - Deadened Control Room - Blue BabyBottle Condenser Microphone - AT 2020 Condenser Microphone - MCA SP1 Condenser Microphone - SM58 Microphone - 2 pop filters - one fabric, one metal. - Steinberg C12 Preamps - Yamaha DTXPLORER electronic drum kit - Alesis DM5 with Drum Triggers - Roland RD-170 keyboard (MIDI connected) - M-audio KeyStudio (MIDI connected) - Logic Pro 9 with the following plugins: Waves, Sampletek Steinway D Black Grand, Native Instruments Complete 8, SugarBytes, Pettinhouse Acoustic Guitar, Pettinhouse Direct Guitar 3 and Addictive Drums. - Sibelius 6 - Behringer XENYX 1002C Professional Mixer - 2 KRK Rokit 8" Studio Monitors - 2 M-audio Bx5a Studio Monitors - KRK KNS 8400 Studio Headphones - AKG K240 Studio Headphones - Behringer Headphone Amplifer *** Travel Equipment *** Any of the equipment listed above that I can carry over to your place! *** Specialties *** Songwriting, music production, voice and piano.
