New song by Billy Whiting of Unpainted Souls. I'm using right hand tech that I got watching Chet Atkins, the Banjo Hangout, the banjo players on YouTube and Homespun Tapes. Hope you enjoy it!

For me, Unpainted Souls, has always been about honesty. The soul unpainted if you will. I have endeavored to write from a place of transparency even if I have not always achieved it. At times, life is too painful and I could only hint at the crises inside me. On the other hand, I have at times experienced such joy as to not be able to describe it adequately. Life, Sin and Prayer is a stop on this journey of mine, in which I have documented lost ground and new discoveries. I hope that you enjoy it and in the listening we connect in some meaningful way.

Unpainted Souls is Billy Whiting's on going project which started in 1992. The players in the group come and go which helps to keep the music fresh and new. At the core, Unpainted Souls is about life and the artistic expression of life's struggles and joys. Musically, Billy tries to find that place in music were style is interpreted my the lister. Depending on who you are and what you listen to is what will determine which category you put Unpainted Souls into. Think Hank William's Blues Come Around when the Sun Goes Down, in it you find country, jazz, blues and even rock! Billy played professionally in the 434th Army Band for 4 years but is mostly known for leading and playing worship in local Tampa Bay area churches and occasionally playing Unpainted Souls gigs. He has played most every Sunday for the last 10 years and has also lead a Wednesday night service for 3 years. Unpainted Souls is now expanding it's music to include folk, old-time, bluegrass, rock, and blues, hoping to begin playing music to a wider audience.

He offers all the right instructions to give you peace of mind and trust in yourself in order to really understand the guitar. He exemplifies the kind of qualities that I find most admirable in a person, and I really can't speak highly enough about him. He is incredibly experienced, and he is always learning and passing that on. He is so reliable, and I always look forward to my lessons! I highly recommend him as a teacher!

feedback on lessons and teacher

Any time one takes up something new in later life it is a challenge to stay with it and not sink back into comfy life. i have enjoyed my singing lessons with William though it took me a couple to get past my self-conscousness. It helped that he moved the lessons to a church--from his home. Better setting for singing practice. And william has done a great job of matching our lessons to how i want to develop my voice.

I walked into the first lesson having absolutely no knowledge of guitar. It was nice to have a teacher that not only taught me how to play chords but also gave me a little bit of history of the guitar. Now, only three months later, I can proudly say that I know enough to play whatever song I want! He's very patient and encouraging. I would recommend him to anyone.
