M.M. with a concentration in Piano Performance
About Tuesday S.
I am a pianist and teacher from Southern California who received a Bachelor's Degree in music with a concentration in piano performance in the year 2013. I am receiving my Master's degree in piano performance in the fall of 2017 from California State University Long Beach. I have finished my graduate recital, which is a requirement for all graduate students who desire to pursue music and complete their degree. The majority of repertoire that I studied in college consists of works by composers J.S. Bach, Frederic Chopin, L.V. Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Ravel, W.A. Mozart, and other renowned classical composers. I also have experience performing popular music, and music from broadway musicals.
I have been teaching for five years and have found that the most important component of learning music and performing with success is the discipline of steady practice. Every student is required to practice on a regular basis, and young students will receive a small reward each week if their skills improve through steady practice. Young students who work diligently will also be entered into an occasional raffle for various prizes. Through steady practice and a desire to learn, I will teach you the foundations of music: rhythm, note-reading, technique, music theory, ear training, artistry, and interpretation. Artistry and interpretation are less understood, but both extend beyond learning the notes on the page, by using technique to express unique, emotional, and beautiful sounds through the piano.
I teach classical and popular music, and will assist you in learning to sing and play at the piano if you already enjoy singing. When teaching beginners, I use a curriculum that fits the need of the student. The studies that I favor to use for beginners include (but are not limited to) Bastien, Alfred, Faber, and Snell. For intermediate and advanced students, I allow students to pick some of their repertoire, and also focus their attention toward classical music from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Contemporary periods of music. Learning classical music will not only broaden the student's knowledge of music and history, but it will additionally set a foundation for a student who desires to study music at a university.
