Art is subjective, and in that same way, art is personal. No two people will interpret a song's lyrics exactly the same way, just like how no two people will experience the same emotions listening to the same song. That, to me, is the beauty of songwriting - what you write will certainly have a specific meaning to you, but another listener's interpretation may give you an even richer sense of what the song is about. Using over sixteen years of tailoring the craft of songwriting, I'd like to take you on a journey through language, poetry, harmony, and tension as we explore what makes a great song, and how you can use your unique viewpoint to create truly beautiful music. In my lessons, you will not only discover how to craft lyrics and make them rhyme, but also become aware of various music theory concepts that will aid in the speed and nuance with which you can write your own songs. I don't like saying that there is any set formula to how to write a song, because that process is different for everyone. So, we will be working together to find out -your- own guide to songwriting! These lessons are priced differently from my other classes because I treat them more like a 'writing workshop'. In this way, I actually encourage longer lessons because the process of songwriting is more involved than a traditional instrument lesson.
