    🐟 Bassy Basics 🐟

I take a humble approach to teaching bass - a mainstay and necessity for nearly all avenues of music collaboration. Here's the deal: a lot of the memes and word-of-mouth about bass players are sadly very true. One of my favorite bass quotes is, "On my first lesson, I learned to play the E string. On my second lesson, I learned about the A string. After that, I stopped taking lessons, because I was already in a punk band." Bass can be one of the more monotonous and unglamorous instruments to play, but that doesn't mean it isn't vitally important. In a way, bass is the great communicator that keeps the drummer on point -and- serves as a guiding light for your more melodic players - guitar, keyboard, and singers. Now, of course, bass is certainly able to take the spotlight from time to time, though you don't need to do very much to stand out ahead of all the rest. With consistency and dedication, the secrets of playing bass are (literally) at your fingertips. I justify the pricing for my lessons based on what I believe is best for the student - in my opinion, shorter lessons yield better results, so that's where you'll get the best deals from me. There is a great deal of responsibility placed on the student to apply what was learned in the lesson throughout the rest of the week, so it isn't necessary to spend so much time meeting with an instructor. If you are someone who greatly benefits from having longer lessons, I am certainly willing to change the price on a case-by-case basis.

    About Troy S.

Hello, I am a songwriter, performer, and band leader with the know-how to teach a wide variety of subjects related to music. I take pride in my understanding of music theory, particularly how it relates to playing piano and keyboard. To me, one of the most fun things about music is breaking down a song and seeing how all of its different elements come together to create a beautiful masterpiece. Finding all the interesting coincidences and intentional composition choices between musical works really tests your brain like a big puzzle. Solving the puzzle not only makes a song easier to understand and play along to, but will also reward you with specific skills related to your chosen instrument. That being said, I am a lifelong student myself, so if someone has a question that I'm unable to answer, I'm humble enough to say "I don't know - but let's figure it out together!" My main expertise is with reading and performing keyboard music, though I am also a seasoned trumpet player, singer, and bassist, having written and performed with a multitude of bands over my musical career. If I'm your guy, let's talk! I have so much to share with you!
