    About Tommy D.

If you have ever shredded a killer air-guitar solo, sung away a hard day to a smooth acoustic rhythm, or lost yourself in the impossibly catchy chorus of a great song, then you are in good company. You have the heart of a musician. I have been playing guitar for 13 years, and I have been teaching for the last 2 years. I play in a band around the city of Chicago, frequenting various colorful venues and bringing people together with my music. There is no experience quite like it! I accept all ages, and I specialize in Beginner/Intermediate students. I have a Bachelor of Science in Communication from Northwestern University, where I studied Theatre and Physics, practicing guitar regularly throughout my collegiate career. I am great with kids and adults alike, and I rarely meet a soul I don't get along with. I am an expert communicator and an avid listener, investing myself in the goals of my students. I have a unique music education. I was trained professionally in Voice and Guitar for 3 years in Charlotte, NC, after which I continued my music education independently. Because I taught myself for so many years, I developed an understanding of exactly what I needed to improve my skills, forging my own "curriculum" as I advanced, and always challenging myself to push outside of my comfort zone. This experience prepared me to give thoughtful, focused feedback to my students who are beginning or continuing their own musical adventures. I teach both Acoustic and Electric Guitar, specializing in Blues, Classic Rock, Progressive Rock, Country, Contemporary Rock, Acoustic styles, and many more. I am comfortable with all genres and can tailor lessons for individual tastes. Ask me about some of my favorite artists! Fun Fact: I can learn many songs I encounter in minutes, if not seconds! This is because, when I was young, my parents would challenge me to play songs they loved but that I had never heard before. I became adept at learning music "by ear," having a grasp on most songs I tried to learn just by listening. I welcome the same challenge from you! Bring me a song on our first lesson and I will show you what I--and someday you, too--can do. I would be honored to share this gift with you. It has made my life so full and been such a comfort in difficult times. I look forward to being a part of your musical career!
