My name is Tomas. I am a Brazilian-American polyglot musician and language instructor. I play music and teach English/Portuguese for a living, and have been doing so for the past 7 years! I also learned Spanish and French through music, so I know a lot about those languages and the styles of music where those languages are spoken. As a professional musician, I play and sing Samba and Bossa Nova, and perform with my original project, a band called 'Seres de Luz' (Beings of Light). In this project I blend styles of music from all over Latin America. I take a holistic approach to education by bringing awareness to the body, and combine the nuances of oral transmission with the concreteness of western notation and the wisdom of tradition. I inspire growth in my students by challenging their technical abilities, bringing socio-historical awareness to the music, and always teaching through the heart space to ensure they never lose sight of their joy during the learning process.
