Thomas was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He has attended Grand Rapids Community College, Aquinas College and Western Michigan University. He remains active in Grand Rapids as a writer, composer and performer. *** Lesson Details *** I believe that music lessons should be interesting and fun! My experiences have taught me that we play our instruments not just as a hobby, but to further our growth as individuals. While studying with me, one can expect to learn dedication and discipline in a comfortable and nurturing environment. I aim to teach my students the music that inspired them to pick up the instrument. I use a variety of different method books and instructional tools for my students. After the first few months of instruction, a student can expect to have their knowledge of the instrument furthered quite considerably. They will have the basics mastered, if they have not already achieved that before our studies began, and a thorough understanding of how chords are constructed and how chord progressions operate. *** Specialties *** I am comfortable teaching any style of guitar or bass guitar. With piano, I prefer to emphasize the student's strengths and focus in on their areas of comfort and familiarity. I use a wide variety of method books, depending on the student's goals and their own personal interests.
