Tom Benko currently works as a drummer/percussionist for Blue Man Group Chicago, the Chicago Bulls, and repairs percussion instruments for Century Mallet. As a freelancer, Tom holds down for the drum chair for Chicago-based singer-song writers Kevin Presbrey, Greg Hyde, Taylor Rogers and tours with Sam Rae. As a soloist and clinician, Tom combines electrified hammered dulcimer, custom built instruments, hand held percussion, marching percussion techniques, live looping and drum kit to create an eclectic blend of sounds for his compositions. Tom curates a Chicago based music series, Emanation, centered around eclectic experimental musicians. As a teacher, Tom has been Director of Education for Marengo, Lake Park, and Maine South High Schools and is curantley the percussion consultant for The Chicago Center for Music Education. He proudly endorses Innovative Percussion, Ludwig-Musser, Sabian Cymbals, and Etymotic Research.

Taking drum lessons with Thomas online has been so rewarding. I finally dusted off my old drums and went on a search to find a great teacher and I found him. I'm not looking to become the next Neil Peart or anything. Just want to have fun and learn. He's very easy to talk to and helps me grasp musical concepts in a really digestible way. He has me working on exercises and my durability on the drum set has improved worlds beyond where I thought I could ever be. I really love his work with Minor Characters, a Chicago band he was in. I'm an older guy but I was motivated by Thomas to start jamming in the garage with some friends of mine who play guitar and bass We have about 10 songs we play each week and Thomas helps me work through each one and every week I get better. Take lessons with this guy. He'll change your life!

Tom is such an amazing instructor! He is incredibly passionate about percussion and it comes through in his teaching style. He is patient and takes the time to makes sure to cover the fundamentals as applied to learning a song. I look forward to our lesson every week!

Thomas is such a good teacher. He's patient with me and is so incredible about breaking down a music for me and helping me understand what I'm playing. I've become a better drummer two times over after working with him for a few months. He's very kind, too, and very flexible with my schedule! Can't recommend him enough.
