Learn the Banjo from a Bluegrass Professional!

I have been playing banjo for more than 15 years, and performing professionally in varying capacities since 2005. I have been a teacher of all levels with the instrument for the past 7 years, and work to ensure that my students learn what they want to learn, and have the tools they need to relate to the musical world around them. With my passion for banjo, I have explored nearly every genre and what the instrument's role is within all of those. I specialize in teaching beginner-advanced students. It doesn't matter to me if you have never held a banjo, or if you are an advanced player wanting to take your playing into a new avenue, I am here to help!

    About Taylor S.

    5.0
    (4)
Taylor has been involved in recording projects and/or shared stages with a variety of regional and national artists including Sierra Hull, Nicholas Jamerson (Sunday Best), Tiffany Williams, Britton Patrick Morgan (featured alongside David Roe and Darrell Scott), Hillhouse, Andy Frasco and the UN, the Kitchen Dwellers and Mama Said String Band. Taylor is no stranger to the regional and national music scene. A Nashville-based banjoist, singer-songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, Taylor has been performing since 2006. He is steeped in bluegrass tradition, and while completing a degree in classical guitar and composition, he had the realization that his passion for music comes from the communication created by blending genres and getting to find the most impactful way to say something through his music. Taylor’s influences in bluegrass, classical, folk, and jazz musics meld together into a unique style that continues to grow and be influenced by music from all walks of life and parts of the world. Some of the artists that Taylor is most heavily inspired by include Bela Fleck, Bob Dylan, John Coltrane, Emily King, Maurice Ravel, Matt Menefee (Cadillac Sky), Edgar Meyer, John Prine, Joni Mitchell, Allison Brown, Joni Mitchell and Crooked Still. When not performing, Taylor loves to drink tea, cook, read, and stay involved within his community. He also loves to share the culture of Kentucky’s folk traditions through music education.

Taylor has been such an incredible teacher and wealth of knowledge while I'm learning to play the banjo. He meets you where you are at, but also allows you to guide the lessons in the direction you are most interested in. I really enjoy the way Taylor teaches the fundamentals in a way that is easy to grasp, and finds ways to make the very basics fun and engaging. He also is very encouraging for folks new to the instrument like myself! Can't recommend him enough!
