Hi! I'm Sylvia--I play piano, violin, and viola professionally, and guitar, flute, and clarinet amateurly. I'm in school to become a music therapist, since I've seen how powerful music can be in treating a huge variety of illnesses, both physical and mental. My teaching core values are: -praise > criticism -students' goals trump teacher's ego -technique should be practical and logical, not "because this is the way it's done" -kids are smart humans -music theory is cool -there is no one right learning style I want to help my students develop their skills in a way that respects them and their strengths, helps them achieve their goals, and aligns with their personal learning style, no matter how different that is from mine. Music is AWESOME; I'm excited to get to learn about it with you!

Sylvia gave me resources to start building a new talent from day 1. She is always professional, on time, encouraging and patient. Great experience, well worth the money!
She really focuses on encouraging students when they perform well, motivating you to work harder. She’s very patient when explaining things and makes sure you understand it before moving on. Overall a great teacher!
