Need a teacher who caters to your learning style? That's my specialty! Since I hold numerous freelance jobs, I have worked under a number of odd circumstances playing a variety of styles (and even instruments!). I have earned both a Bachelor's and Master's of Music in flute performance--both from DePaul University, and have studied and performed with many well-respected orchestral and freelance performers. My resume and references are available upon request. *** Lesson Details *** I emphasize solid tone and technique as a foundation for playing, but always encourage musicality and finding your own voice within a piece. You'll often find me asking you "how did you feel about that performance?" in lessons, so you can begin to identify and troubleshoot your own habits for optimum improvement! We will also cover a little bit of music theory, history (mostly flute history, but also composers and basic genres), listening, science, math--all of the varying aspects of music that we sometimes overlook. *** Studio Equipment *** I have a music stand, a CD player (for listening) and a basic keyboard (for visual music theory). *** Travel Equipment *** I always keep a bag or two of repertoire (for technique and sight-reading!), quick-fixes, and tricks for easy learning! It makes for a long haul, but I'm always prepared! *** Specialties *** Since I'm a bit of a woodwind doubler, I love taking doublers who need to brush up on flute! I'm currently studying clarinet, though I have additionally played saxophone in small productions for the past 7 years. This helps me particularly with "doubler" habits and the specifics of the necessary embouchure changes.
