- Levels Taught:
- Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
I have experience teaching beginners through high school students. I aim to create a positive and nurturing environment for all of my students. My teaching methods provide students with structure by focusing on goal-based learning and time management. Lessons will cover various practice techniques and ways to better understand and utilize the body while playing.
Students will be asked to dedicate 15-30 minutes of focused and efficient practice a day. At the culmination of each lesson, a list of goals and assignments will be created collaboratively with the student. A practice log will then be kept, offering students the ability to reflect and improve their practice in a rewarding manner.
Parents should do their best to stay involved with their child's progress. Parents should encourage their child to practice and keep up with their practice log. My goal is to maintain open communication with both the parent and the student. Honest discussion of how a student is practicing will only help to keep students moving in the right direction.
Some method books and music will need to be purchased depending on the student's playing level. If this creates a financial burden, I am happy to work something out.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions. I look forward to working with you!

I am a clarinetist studying at the New England Conservatory of Music. My private instructor is Boston Symphony Orchestra clarinetist, William Hudgins. Prior to studying with Mr. Hudgins I have worked with Timothy Zavadil, Scott Anderson, Daniel Silver, and Stacey McColley.
At the Conservatory, I play in the Symphony Orchestra under the direction of David Loebel and Hugh Wolff and the Symphonic Winds under the direction of Bill Drury. I am also involved in a woodwind quintet. I spent two summers studying at the Interlochen Summer Music Festival as a member of the World Youth Symphonic Orchestra and the Interlochen Philharmonic with world-renowned conductors.
Having spent 10 years honing in on my craft, I am hoping to share my expertise and passion with students of all ability levels. I have worked privately with a few students over past three years and have developed a strategy for success. I hope you will consider me in your pursuit of music, and I can't wait to work with you!
In this position, I assist the Children's Chorus director in classroom activities.
Susan is great!!!
Lessons with Susan are great. She provided me with a strategy that I can stick to so I can make progress while keeping up with my schedule. (I'm 16yo)
Susan is young, energetic and passionate! She worked with my daughter the summer before her first year of school band and was more than prepared when band classes began. We would highly recommend her!
