I've been teaching guitar to students of all ages for almost a decade. I try to focus on the interests of the student while also working on the basic fundamentals of musicianship.  I often use songs to introduce new techniques to students, and present lessons in an easy to understand, and easy to approach manner.

My name is Steven, and I've been teaching private lessons to students of all ages for nearly a decade. I earned a degree in music performance in 2005, and began teaching shortly after that.  I moved to Portland in 2012, and have enjoyed working with, and acquiring a whole new group of students.

I started taking guitar lessons from Steve when I was 13, and went in only knowing a couple cords. Steve was the perfect teacher! Really paid attention to me as a student and made sure to personalize my lessons instead of just giving basic blueprints, along with really focusing on my style. He has a massive range of styles, which enables him to really customize lessons. Not aware for a long time, I ended up discovering that I had some friends also taking lessons from him. We all had slightly different styles and completely different lessons based on our past of learning. Alway excited to show and teach me new songs the he had been working on, and just as excited to hear what I've been coming up with. Always had the perfect way of helping fix up my own songs without taking over the song or being harsh with criticism. Basically, he was awesome with advice.  I continued on with lessons way longer than needed due to both wanting to continue the friendship we had developed, and really in admiring he critiquing. He was also really good at learning songs for me in order to teach me songs he thought I would like, which involves him taking his personal time outside of work to help me.

Steve gave me guitar lessons for almost 4 years. He opened my eyes to many different styles of music in guitar/classical guitar. Also showed me music theory. music theory was a whole new language for me but Steve was very patient and and teach me at my pace. Great teacher. Would recommend him to any beginners.
