Hi there! My name is Simon Willson and my main gigging instrument is the double bass. I studied Jazz Bass at the New England Conservatory for my Bachelor's and Master's degree. I have been in love with music since I was very young, and it has been the best gift I have ever received. I would like to be able to share this gift with other people, and that has been the driving force behind my teaching. In addition to teaching, I keep a very busy performing schedule. You can find me playing at different venues in NYC several nights a week, in addition to frequent tours to Europe, South America, and the US. I have a background in the Jazz and Classical tradition. In addition to performing, I compose and play guitar and piano. I love harmony, ear training, and theory, and feel confident teaching those subjects as well. Some of my past teachers include bassists Ben Street, Dave Holland, Cecil McBee, and Donald Palma, pianists Ethan Iverson and Frank Carlberg, and trumpet player John McNeil.
