Hi there! My name is Simon Willson and my main gigging instrument is the double bass. I studied Jazz Bass at the New England Conservatory for my Bachelor's and Master's degree.
I have been in love with music since I was very young, and it has been the best gift I have ever received. I would like to be able to share this gift with other people, and that has been the driving force behind my teaching.
In addition to teaching, I keep a very busy performing schedule. You can find me at Wally's Jazz Cafe every Friday and Saturday night, where I perform with Jason Palmer. I'm also frequently playing at The Beehive, Beat Brasserie, and the Lily Pad.
I have a background in the Jazz and Classical tradition. In addition to performing, I compose and play guitar and piano. I also love harmony and theory.
Some of my past teachers include bassists Ben Street, Dave Holland, Cecil McBee, and Donald Palma, pianists Ethan Iverson and Frank Carlberg, and trumpet player John McNeil.
I have performed a variety of musical styles in Europe, Canada, USA, and Chile. Even though most of my gigs are in the Jazz and Improvised music realm, I have done my fair share of Rock gigs.
Performances and masterclasses at senior centers, schools, and homeless shelters around the Boston area.
