Sierra is currently a freelance flutist in the Los Angeles area specializing in chamber and orchestral music. Kick starting her solo career, she won first prize in the Oregon Symphony’s Wiscarson Concerto Competition at the age of 16. More recently, Sierra has performed regularly with multiple award winning chamber ensembles. Through 2017-2018 she performed with the flute and guitar chamber group Duo Adeso. Throughout 2015-2017 she was a member of the Ultra Violet Flute Quartet, winners of the Hartt School Chamber Competition. A lover of ensemble playing and education, Sierra directed the Stratosphere Flute Choir for their 2017-2018 season. Sierra completed her Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Hartford’s Hartt School under the tutelage of New York City based flutist Janet Arms. Sierra is currently pursuing her Master of Music degree at the University of Southern California, where she is studying with Jim Walker, a previous principle of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and well-known studio musician. An avid supporter of new music, Sierra premiered a new composition for flute, piano, drums, and saxophone titled Cycles by CT composer Mark Ceppetelli in 2015. She has consistently performed new works by living artists, such as Steven Gryc, Jennifer Higden, Mario Diaz de Leon, Larry Allen Smith, Ian Clarke, David Macbride, and many others. Sierra has made appearances in the PRISMA Orchestra and The Orpheus Academy Orchestra. She has performed in various orchestral venues around the United States such as The Bushnell Performing Arts Center, Berkman Hall, Lincoln Theatre, Millard Theatre, Evergreen Theatre, and The Historic Elsinore Theatre. She has participated in master classes with notable musicians such as Denis Bouriakov, Jim Walker, Emmanuel Pahud, Zart Dombourian-Eby, Walfrid Kujala, and Jill Felber.

I would highly recommend Sierra to teach all levels of flute lessons! From beginner to advanced! I have been taking flute lessons from Sierra for the past two years and she has taken my playing to the next level. She has helped me develop the proper breath control, pure sound and technique that I needed to give me the next push into mastering the flute. Sierra is an amazing musician, teacher, and person. She works with all ages and levels, and is extremely patient and gracious as a teacher. She will show you everything you need to know and more! I respect her greatly as a person and a player and you will not regret working with her!

Sierra is a fantastic teacher. Extremely knowledgeable and well-informed, Sierra made me feel accommodated and in good hands. Providing a more youthful perspective on classical music, she welcomed different methods that I wanted to try when it came to approaching technique. Sierra also is fresh out of undergrad and is on the road to her masters degree, which is super helpful for students who are in the midst of the application process for colleges. Thank you so much, Sierra, and I look forward to taking more lessons soon!
