My Name is Shon Morgan. I was raised in a family who passed the art of music down from generation to generation. I studied music at Morehead State University and Musician’s Institute. I've been a touring and studio musician since the age of 16. I have been teaching music for more than 35 years. Many of my alumni that have gone on to become professional musicians and teachers themselves. My approach to music education is somewhat unique. I view music more like a language, as opposed to data entry. There are many musicians with little formal training who play an instrument so well you'd swear you can see smoke coming from their fingers. Let me tell you, they weren't born that way. They learned to speak the language of music.
You may have studied music before and given up because it was too difficult. Please know that's not uncommon. But I’m here to tell you, there is a better way! So if you've ever wanted to learn to play an instrument or sing, there is no better time than now.
I started Shon Morgan Music 20 years ago on Sunset Strip in Hollywood California and I along with different staff teachers over the years have taught well over 1000 students. I have since relocated from there and I'm focusing my business here on takelesson.com.
I have played and toured with many bands and musicians over the past 30+ years. I have played many styles of music including, Jazz, Blues, Funk, Rock, Pop, Country, Blue Grass, Gospel, R&B, Praise and Worship, Latin, Latin Funk, Fusion, and many combinations of all the afore mentioned. I have been blessed to have played with some famous and not so famous musicians. But what I can truly say is, the most important thing is, that I love what I do and I have crazy fun doing it. I continue to work with different projects and see no end in sight.
I lead a volunteer music department of 40 people. We performed weekly for 4 services. I mentored and trained several musicians. both young and old, during my time there. Most all of them are playing are still involved there or they are playing in bands through out Denver Colorado. We also organized and recorded a city wide worship project available on itunes.
I taught elementary, junior high and high school music. I organized and rehearsed 2 school choirs and 2 school bands. I also directed an after school music education program with over 100 students involved.
I received a teacher's certification diploma
