Hey there! My name is Shane. I'm a pianist and composer and I've been playing piano for 22 years. Music has been the great joy of my life and I love sharing it with others. My philosophy on lessons is that they should be a rewarding, positive, and upbuilding experience. Learning to play the piano is a journey, and there's no reason we can't have fun doing it! My approach is to create a custom curriculum for each student based on their goals while doing my best to observe and build upon their natural strengths. Everybody can learn with proper instruction, enough time, and a little bit of motivation and my job is to make it easy for you. Thank you for your interest, and I wish you well on your musical journey!+ Read More
This was a very fun place to teach. It had a music studio with extensive equipment including a piano, multiple stringed instruments, drums, computers, and a large amount of music making hardware. Students were instructed in piano performance, songwriting, composition, and learning to play pieces by ear.+ Read More

I studied with Shane during my time as an undergraduate student at CSUN.
I already had a substantial amount of music background having taught private lessons on another instrument (drums/percussion) myself prior to meeting Shane, but I wanted to become a strong keyboard player and needed a teacher I could afford and found Shane's rate to be in my budget. With all this in mind I was very critical going into the introduction and first few lessons.
Here's my take away regarding Shane
- He does his homework and spends the time needed to craft and customize a lesson plan geared to your goals. He doesn't just show up , show you a few things, take your money, ad nauseam week after week.
- When you show up, he knows what you are working on and is ready to listen and suggest new things. You don't have to waste lesson time recapping where you left off .
- He is passionate about teaching and music pedagogy in and of itself, not just about getting paid !!
I currently take lessons with a Doctorate level instructor in my hometown and the level of care and attention I received from Shane in comparison to my current ( and hugely more expensive ) teacher is virtually the same.
Highly Recommend !!!
