I am a classically trained musician and music teacher from central Iowa. I have been studying and playing music my entire life. My main instrument is trumpet, but in recent years my passion for music has driven me to learn many instruments such as piano, accordion, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trombone, and others.
Over the years I have developed a deep love for music theory. I have written and performed several of my own original compositions, as well as large analysis projects of composers such as Beethoven, Schubert, and Debussy.
My music theory lessons are focused on the student. I will work with you to make sure that you are getting the knowledge and developing the skills that you need to accomplish your goals. This keeps me on my toes as a teacher, and allows my students to take advantage of a flexible and understanding instructor.
I can teach anyone from very beginners to college music majors who need help with their homework. I can teach you how to read your first notes, analyze Beethoven, create a twelve tone matrix, compose like Debussy and more.
I am currently a senior Music Education major with a concentration in Jazz Studies at Drake University (Yes, the one that Drake the rapper went to. And yes, the one that the 2016 Democratic Debates were held at.) I have been teaching music for several years and am excited to meet new students and share my passion for music and music theory!
I work as a teaching assistant with a high school band program.
Each individual learns music theory at a different pace. Some grasp the finer points with ease, while others may take their time getting to know the ins and outs of this complicated subject matter.
This is something that Seth understands well. As one who struggled immensely with many of the more difficult concepts I came across, Seth continually demonstrated a deep understanding of a broad spectrum of concepts as well as patience in regard to the speed at which I was able to progress.
I have had few music teachers who are as willing to accommodate as Seth.
Seth really knows the material that he teaches. He is able to explain the concepts in an easy-to-understand manner, even if the topic is a challenging one. I have taken undergrad music theory classes before, and I learned from Seth much faster and with greater depth than I did in my university classes. He does a good job to make the learning process as engaging as possible. I highly recommend Seth as a music theory instructor. He will not disappoint.+ Read More
Seth has a great understanding of music, and a great understanding of how to teach what makes music tick. Seth conveyed good insight to me in each of our lessons, and I am certainly a more well-rounded musician as a result.
Money well spent. 10/10 would recommend again.
Best teacher ive ever had!
