Musical theater can be challenging, because you have to sing AND act. Come learn with me.

Musical theater has been my passion/life since I was young and I can help you sing all the various styles that musical theater calls for today. I can especially help you prepare for auditions and learn how to balance the singing and acting into it.

**In-person students must be vaccinated. Teaching singing, acting, and piano in-person in Oak Park, IL to any fully vaccinated student, as well as teaching singing and acting online all over the country!** Serena has been teaching online for over ten years and has tons of experience making online lessons accessible, fun, and informative! Serena is originally from the New York City area and has been acting, singing, dancing, and playing piano since she was young. As a teenager, she attended the prestigious Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan and went on to receive her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. While she was there, she realized her love of teaching when she tutored struggling piano and music theory students. In Chicago, her credits include: Tony N' Tina's Wedding, Little Women, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Comedy of Errors, Macbeth, Jersey Shore: The Musical, Jack and the Beanstalk, Theatre of Women 6, Pirates of Penzance, Change the Night Owl, and two solo cabarets: "Should I Be Sweet?" and "I Don't Want To Be a Cliche." Serena loves working with people who particularly share her love of Musical Theater and Shakespeare, but she finds all ages and levels exciting and fulfilling. Serena also specializes in coaching high school students for their auditions for BFA or BA Acting or Musical Theater programs. She is completely informed about the audition process for each individual school and is able to help select repertoire to fit your needs. Additionally, Serena has significant experience training people for unique singing and acting experiences, such as singing at friends' weddings, bar mitzvah singing, and corporate improv/acting. She helps people loosen up, have fun, and succeed to their highest potential. *** Lesson Details *** I have a very good balance in my lessons of nurturing the student, but also pushing the student to his or her highest potential. I always remain encouraging and supportive. I spend about a third of the lesson on technique work and I always encourage students to bring in their own material that we can work on as well. You will get excellent vocal and piano technique from me, but you will also learn to have fun and appreciate the ease and relaxation of singing and playing piano. *** Studio Equipment *** Baby Grand Piano, seating for parents - main room *** Travel Equipment *** n/a *** Specialties *** I specialize in musical theater singing, especially preparation for any auditions (singing or acting) for shows, college auditions, etc. Musical theater is my main passion, but I also focus a lot on pop music. I am especially experienced in introducing newbies to singing or piano.

She is good at helping prepare for auditions and increasing your repertoire. I learned a lot from her, and I usually schedule a session before auditions to help me smooth out monologues.

My son‘s first acting lesson went really well. The guidance she is giving him is exactly what I was looking for and I’m really pleased.
