    About Sarah D.

I am a professional classical singer with a background in classical piano. I graduated from MTSU with a major in Vocal Performance, although I also studied piano, organ, education, and composition during my time there. I live in Nashville, TN and teach at a local music store where I have a studio of 15 piano and voice students. I see piano and voice like two dialects of the same language and love helping student learn to speak the language of music! As a classical singer in Nashville, I perform both for live music and for recording sessions. I have recently been singing with the Nashville Opera and Vocal Arts Nashville, a professional choral ensemble, and a local church where I am a paid staff singer. One cool “Nashville” opportunity I had was that I got to sing for the CMA Christmas special with Michael W Smith, Amy Grant, and Reba McIntyre. As a pianist, I mostly play now for voice students and for myself, however I have been an pianist for other classical groups in the past. In Middle and High school, I started competing in piano competitions and even went into college as a dual major, but it became clear to me that my greatest interest was in studying voice during my time in school. But don’t be misled- I absolutely love piano, just not as a career for myself. I may not use my piano skills professionally much now, but I love to pass along what I have learned and keep learning as a professional musician. The biggest skill piano has taught me is learning how to climb what feels like a mountain of music, so I know how daunting it can be to my students just starting out. I currently live with my husband (also a classical musician) and our golden retriever, Frisco (whom you may see sometimes at lessons). I love playing and singing musical theatre songs and playing board games with my husband and friends. I also both love to play video games, cook new recipes, and watch science fiction shows and movies.
