    About Sara H.

I am a professional oboist, music theorist, and most importantly, educator. I have a bachelor's degree in music education and a master's degree in oboe performance. I currently freelance and teach throughout Michigan and Ohio, with both in person and online students. As a teacher I emphasize independence and critical thinking. I push my students to learn to listen and think critically about what and how they are playing, which helps them become their own teachers and improve more quickly on their own, outside of our lessons. I also make sure to take my student's goals in mind when I teach -- whether you want to play casually, or become a professional oboist, or anything in between! Understanding your goals helps our lessons be more enjoyable and more productive. As an oboist I have given many solo recitals and performed with a variety of ensembles throughout Michigan from duets to full orchestra performances to accompanying amateur choirs. I have also attended and played in many master classes with world class oboists. These experiences are all reflected in my teaching, where I bring all of this expertise to you! I have also done a lot of work in music theory, both in tutoring and professional writing. I'm always working on a new theory project and research. I look forward to getting to know you and help you achieve your goals! My students achievements include entrance into middle school and high school all state ensembles, honor bands and orchestras, and their top choice music schools. My students also regularly receive proficient ratings in solo and ensemble competitions, and are principal chairs in their school ensembles. Lets add your achievements to this list!
