I have been teaching private piano lessons for 11 years, beginning in 2006. I have a degree in Early Childhood Education and Music from Millikin University where I studied vocal performance, piano, and music education. I am also a professional vocalist and perform at local churches. I look forward to working with you and sharing the joys of music!
I am a driven, professional music teacher with experience in piano instruction across versatile student groups and classroom settings. In addition, my qualifications include a Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education and Music Performance from Millikin University.
In addition to takelessons.com, my most recent and current positions are in piano and vocal instruction at The Ancona School, Offbeat Music, Piano Trends and Avanti Music Academy. During the course of my teaching experience, I have always strived to help my students achieve their highest potential. There is nothing more fulfilling for the student and the teacher alike than seeing improvement and elevating the level of skill in music performance. In the different types of classroom settings, I maintain a productive environment, while remaining approachable to my students for discussions about their music advancement. My communication skills enable me to easily connect with students, parents and colleagues.
Thanks to my educational training at Millikin, I am comfortable with teaching not only musical concepts but also performance, reading and aural skills. My educational background has given me a solid understanding of teaching music and my on-the-job training has provided the experience of working with students of all ages and abilities. Working one-on-one with students or in groups, I utilize various methods or styles and prepare students for performance by organizing and facilitating recitals or performance opportunities.

Ruth is a fabulous teacher and very patient with my two young children.
Shortly after my 37th birthday, I decided I wanted to learn to play piano. Although I hadn't touched a musical instrument in over 20 years and forgotten a vast majority of what I had learned as a child, Ruth was there to coach me through the process. She's incredibly knowledgeable about music, shown flexibility when I've had scheduling conflicts, and genuinely cares about my progress. She's been instrumental (pun intended!) in my musical journey and I can't say enough great things about her. Thank you, Ruth!+ Read More
Ruth is an amazing teacher. She is patient and has an excellent grasp on music theory, something that was lacking when I took lessons as a child and even when I was in band through high school. She goes at your pace and caters lessons to your needs. I've learned so much from her, thank you Ruth!+ Read More
Ruth was so wonderful with the kids! We are so excited for our next lesson and lessons to come!
Great first lesson, thanks!
Ruth and my daughter are a perfect fit. She is very excited to continue taking lesson with Ruth.
I started taking online piano lessons with Ruth and learned that she is also a health coach. As a 43 year old mother, I was told by my doctor that I needed to get my weight down. Since I was so impressed with how patient and knowledgeable Ruth was about music and health, I decided to book health coaching sessions with her. Her program is very informative and educational. She understands that everyone's life is different and that not one diet or plan works for all. She tailored the program to accommodate my busy lifestyle and I am happy to report that I have lost 20lbs since we started earlier this year! Now, thanks to Ruth, I am skinnier and can play a musical instrument!+ Read More

Ruth is great with our 5 year old twins. The are excited for the lessons.
First lesson with Ruth was great! 10 year old enjoyed his lesson
Great first lesson my daughter is very excited!
I have been with Ruth for about 14 months. As a beginner, and an adult, I came into our lessons with a few concerns: Can I actually learn to play an instrument in my late 20s? Will I be able to keep up? Will I be stuck playing childish songs for the first few years? Fortunately Ruth was able to put these worries to rest. Not only is she patient and comforting, working with me at my own pace, she is great at breaking down theory and technique in a way that is easy for anyone at any age to understand. And the book that she has me using is filled with a large collection of songs specifically chosen for adult students; it's great!
Ruth has been nothing but a blessing; I enjoy our lessons thoroughly and I look forward to them every week.
Ruth is a very good Piano Teacher. I've worked with her for years and notice how she motivates her student to do there best.
Ruth is a phenomenal instructor! She's been teaching my son piano since he was four years old and it has been a wonderful experience!
Great teacher, very knowledgeable, my daughter loves her piano lessons and is improving greatly! I certainly recommend her!
I've been taking lessons from Ruth for almost a year. I have improved more with her than other instructors. She has been good at teaching me how to practice better and consequently enjoying playing more. I would highly recommend taking lessons from Ruth.
Ruth is one of the most talented instructors I have ever had the privilege to learn under. As a young adult, I have been through a handful of classical piano teachers, and it's easy to say that Ruth is the best. If your want a musical instructor who is not only extremely knowledgeable, but also patient and kind, then Ruth is your person!+ Read More
