Born in Stuttgart, Germany and raised in Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Ruben Helmstädter was born into a musical family. His mother a violinist for the Stuttgart Philharmonic and his father being a singer as well as a music manager for his step-mother, who is a popular Upright Bass Comedian. Ruben grew up with music surrounding him all his life, learning mainly piano, bassoon, as well as singing with choirs from a very young age. When he grew up he decided to try for a more realistic approach and went to pursue a degree for Computer Science at the University of Stuttgart. Not feeling fulfilled by this, he decided to drop it and made a lifestyle change to pursue music. While trying to plan for studies in America, He began studying in Vienna, Austria at the University for Music and Performing Arts being accepted into their ‘Sound Master’ program.
Ruben wanted the ‘American Dream’ and left the program in Vienna & his life in Europe to study, live, work, and experience The United States of America first hand.
He now lives in San Marino with his wife, performing with multiple groups around Los Angeles and Southern California. Ruben plays Jazz Piano and Electric Bass for groups like The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Big Band, Chet Happens, Jazzadena, along with his own Jazz Combos. He sings classically regularly with the combined choirs of The Donald Brinegar Singers & JPL Chorus as a Bass, continues to play bassoon with The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Concert Band, performs with his wife as her piano accompanist, as well as assisting with musicals for the Young Artists Theatre Company for the past 5 years.
